Ha, suckers! Fooled you. No game review tonight.

I got this one out of the Sam Adams Brewmaster variety pack. It was very robust, and it had a flavor that was right on the tip of my tongue in terms of identifying. After reading the label I realized it was chocolate. I love chocolate, when it's in something sweet. But I tried a piece of baker's chocolate once. It was vile. I didn't like what it did to this beer either.

But beside the chocolate, I probably wouldn't have been a huge fan of this beer anyway. I'm not much of a stout drinker. Just a little too intense for my palette. Be that as it may, it was smooth as silk, and I would imagine someone who likes these darker, heavier beers could go for this.

I had that stuff in college and really enjoyed it. Kind of coffee flavored...

Have you tried the Blackberry Whitbier? THAT is some good stuff....a little on the fruity side, but still tasty. I'm also a huge fan of the Winter Lager and Oktoberfest (both go great with traditional holiday meals).

blackberry witbier is too much like wine. it's very bubbly. it should be a little thicker.

Naa, witbiers are supposed to be very light and crisp.
Quote:
Mouthfeel: Medium-light to medium body, often having a smoothness and light creaminess from unmalted wheat and the occasional oats. Despite body and creaminess, finishes dry and often a bit tart. Effervescent character from high carbonation. Refreshing, from carbonation, light acidity, and lack of bitterness in finish. No harshness or astringency from orange pith. Should not be overly dry and thin, nor should it be thick and heavy.

i know that's how witbiers are supposed to taste, but i was implying i'd like it a little heavier and smooth.

long trail ale makes a really good blackberry wheat, called "BlackBeary Wheat"

clever, right?

heh...nice.

I don't mind some fruit in an American wheat beer, but they should leave witbier alone...it gets enough flavor from the orange peel, coriander and Belgian yeast.

I tried Blue Point at the Adirondack Beer Festival last year. Anyone else tried it?

It's a very, very subtle blueberry tasting beer. Not bad.

Subtle is the only way to do fruit in a beer IMO. (fruit lambics obviously being the exception).
It should be a beer first and a fruit beer second. And that goes for all adjunct flavors...smoke, whiskey, chocolate, oak etc.
All adjunct flavors should simply compliment a good beer that would stand on its own.

I never said fruit beers can't be awesome.
It's just my opinion that the fruit component should be subtle.

A beer with some fruit, not a fruit drink with some beer.

For example, I'm a fan of "Hell or High Watermelon Wheat" by the 21st Amendment.

This seems to be the home for all that "pretty boy" beer Cross left behind at my pub. All that god-awful fruity syrup that needs to get dumped in order to make room for the Genny Cream, High Life, Moslon's and Labatt's.

It's OK, I understand when you're desperate you'll grab whatever wine-cooler beer is available out of necessity. Fear not...Papa ETC is home again, and he's bringing in the beloved hair-on-your-chest beer that can be picked up in any respectable gas station mini-mart.

You know what?
Cream Ale is a "pretty boy" style and to any beer geek living outside of Buffalo, it's pretty damn rare.
SO be careful what you may classify as a macro working-mans beer ;)

I must say, I used this Sam Adams Cream Stout to make a batch of beer bread. Very, very tasty.

Something tells me your special "half-caf, double-vanilla-mocha-latte" beers never came with the slogan "I ain't gonna bore my taste no more, gonna have me a Genny Cream!" :naughty: ;)

there is no better beer for camping than Genny Cream. I hiked in a 12 pack (in a camelback!) 12 miles...and it's just as good in the morning with eggs as it is at night by the campfire.
