Former employers rarely give a bad reference. They generally only confirm dates of employment, job titles, and rates of pay. Most won't even discuss the hows and whys that a person left.

If a company says anything about a former employer that isn't factually true, they are in violation of a ton of labor laws, and it gets costly.

I wouldn't worry too much about the theater saying much of anything about you Caro.

That's what my dad told me, that it's illegal for a former employer to prevent you from getting future work by saying you were a bad employee.

Worse than that, this isn't a talk about whether or not I get fired but rather a talk about whether or not I can come back.

I'm fucking worried, and nothing worries me.

Pretty close, yeah. Like, if you were fired for stealing something, they can say you were fired for stealing something, as long as they have proof that you did. They can't say things like you were a bad employee, because it's hard to prove someone was 'bad'. Most employers won't even bother saying something because they don't want to deal with their former employee filing complaints. It's just not worth the potential hassle to them.

At places like the Regal where you are, they have so many employees, they aren't going to bother getting into specifics if you were to be fired. They'd just say that you worked there, from A to B, and that's about it. They'd probably be talking to some corporate HR schlep nowhere near your location anyways.

I don't advocate just walking out ever, but if it comes to that and you do have to, don't sweat the potential repercussions that much. In 4 years that place won't even be on a resume. :)

I walked out. I've never walked out. I'm one of the most respected members of the production department and I'm on a first-name basis with the CEO and both veeps, I'm well-liked in every department and not just because I've been willing to put in seven-day-weeks to help any department, and I walked out yesterday because it was the least insane option at the moment.

I've been at Petri for almost four years, and in that time I've gone through three shift supervisors and numerous line supervisors. I've seen the best and the worst times, and I've been involved in being a key member of making sure everyone keeps a level head during a lot of bullshit. But I have never, ever been treated like I have been the last couple of weeks by my current shift supervisor. I know I have higher expectations given my standing at the company, but just...I dunno...goddamn. I've got a lot of shit going on in my life right now, both work and non-work related, that is really weighing down on me like never before, and I couldn't think rationally when my boss actually said to me, "I dunno, Phil, what can you do right?" when we came to verbal blows over something stupid.

Now, because I had to bail out before I punched him in the face (not only do I have a "water off a duck's back" mentality in life, like I've previously posted, I'm also incredibly non-violent), I'm considered terminated and no one at work is stepping up to have my back, despite the fact that this pattern of behavior displayed by my boss is the exact same kind that prompted the veep I'm going to talk to today to gather up a number of employees for an informal evaluation of my super's work...which went very negatively.

I'm just fucked if I can't get my job back. I have no license because I got it revoked for speeding (I know, I'm a dumbass) and no car because it get wrecked during the flood last year. I don't have any savings because I basically live paycheck to paycheck but make too much money for DSS to help me out. And where I live there are no other work prospects besides Petri, and even if I got re-hired, I'd be facing a two dollar-an-hour pay cut that would financially jack me three ways to Sunday.

I fucking worried.

Chin up guy.

If the veep is anything resembling a reasonable person, he already knows that your sup is a fuckstick from his meeting. He obviously knows that you're a solid and dedicated worker, and I think both factors play in your favor. The fact that he's wants to even sit down with you is a positive thing IMO.

Don't assume the negative will happen.

I don't assume the negative will happen, usually. Even in this case, I'm trying not to. Dave (said veep) and I have a great working relationship and that also plays into my favor.

My worry is basically stemming from not getting the call to come in. Once I get the call, I know things will be pretty hunky-dory.

Sounds like your supervisior is the one in the wrong. I think given your good relationship with everyone there (minus the super) is going to be a big positive in your situation. I agree with Squanto, the fact that he wants to sit down with you is a big plus too.

I knew a guy a couple years back in a similar situation. Long time with a company, always busted his ass. Got put underneath a supervisor who was a shitbag, treated him like trash. He sucked it up for for a long time, but eventually started doing things he knew would get him in trouble.

Eventually his sup put in the paperwork to get him fired. When they called him into the room where he thought he was getting canned, one of the owners was in the room. Told him that next time he should have opened his mouth instead of doing silly things, but he understood why he did it.

They fired the shitbag sup and promoted this guy into that spot.

Sometimes execs are stupid. Other times, they're much smarter than you think.

Good luck with everything Phil. Sounds like a prick supervisor put you in a bad position, but it's good that you have a nice relationship with the VP.

I hate when my computer says I have 3 or 4 GBs of space left one day, and then the next day I get the stupid low disk space notification and I know it's not true because Vista is a POS and just feels like depleting HDD space so I have to always do disk cleanup a few times a week to remove it.

I disk cleanup with around 200mb of space and then it comes to find out I have 4 Gigs after it. Why did M$ decide to make Vista such a hog on everything?

I wish I could get Windows 7, it uses half or less the resources Vista does. I still need to put my 320GB HDD in an enclosure and start using that.
