Funny business and cover-ups are starting to surface.
Looks like the government is trying as hard as BP to keep a lid on this.

The panel of experts the Obama administration used as justification for the 6 month moratorium on drilling say their report was altered and they made no such recommendation.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06 ... lling-ban/

Since the Federal government "took over" control of the spill, the media has been met by a blockade, not just from BP and its contractors, but also from the Coast guard, Federal wildlife officials and local officials.
Quote:
More blockades. Flyover permits revoked. Photography banned on public beaches. Sick cleanup workers barred from speaking to the press. The restrictions imposed upon journalists been so bad that yesterday both the New York Times and CNN came out strong, calling out the U.S. government for its involvement in interfering with the press

http://www.mnn.com/green-tech/research- ... alist-fury

Hopefully, someone can get the truth out of the gulf because the government and BP doesn't want that to happen.

More awesome news from an oil industry insider

http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6593/648967

We're fucked and that's why our government and BP don't want any information out.

holy simplicity batman. This makes too much sense.

This sonofabitch might be the only chance, if we can find the right materials, no?

No.
If there were a simple answer it would have been done.
It's not about plugging the hole or even collecting the oil because pretty soon they won't be able to do either.
Read the link I just posted..

There are multiple leaks coming from the well (leaks not made by BP drilling holes)...the bore hole is assumed to be compromised...erosion from the release of pressurized oil and gas could ultimately collapse the seabed.
I've read multiple sources of experts openly saying this won't stop until the well is empty. and there are at least 200 billion barrels in that well.
There's nothing they can do but clean it up.

yep, and this is why we're not getting any information from the government or BP...that's how bad it is.
They can't admit the magnitude of the problem and they probably can't even guess at the ultimate outcome.

A long slow leak is the best case scenario.

Imagine the spin if Bush were still in office, or any new Republican - "Bush went to war for oil, now he destroys the Gulf region for oil". "McCain/Romney/Huckabee/entire GOP's love for black gold ruins the western hemisphere".

Now I'm kinda happy that Obama's in office so I don't have to hear a lifetime of bullshit commentary about evil oil-crazed Republicans.

No matter who's at fault (and I don't put politics into it), it will be THE natural disaster (hopefully nothing worse) of our lifetimes. Well, until the meteor hits on 12/21/12.

I got news for everyone, and I can't believe that we so often forget, but if we don't want BP around, we can eliminate them. It's called consumer choice. If you don't like shitty, immoral corporations, don't support them.

It's not that easy.
BP doesn't own their gas stations, they franchise them to local owners. So if you boycott their gas, you're only screwing the local little guy.
Furthermore, if everyone stopped buying BP gas, they would just sell their oil, refined and unrefined to the gas stations where we are buying gas.
And on top of that, it's in our best interest to keep BP alive so they have money to pay for their mess.

Internal BP documents obtained by the government show that there were at least 5 ways in which BP either cut corners or ignored safety recommendations. Profit was given priority over safety. This was no accident, but a case of gross negligence. What I said a month and a half ago has turned out to be entirely true. Cross you are no longer allowed to call this an accident. It's a symptom of a corrupt industry that cares nothing about people or the environment.

Fixed that.
BP had hundreds of violations when others like Exxon only had a few.
I know it's fun to pick on big oil but there's no evidence here to smear the entire industry.

No, this is according to OSHA.

BP: fined 760 times for "egregious, willful" violations.
Exxon: fined once.

http://www.businessinsider.com/bp-has-b ... ety-2010-6

BP is the bad egg.
