WNY and that area has terrible weather, I think the Lakes effect it a bit different since most of the weather in that area comes across the lakes and such. More moisture in the air for that area than in Michigan.
Plus with the Appalachian mountains being the border it effects it also.
we get lake effect in michigan, cause we have lake michigan. however, buffalo gets downright awful lake effect, dropping several feet at a time in some cases. we dont get it to that effect, just 4-12 inches. anything more then 6 inches isnt very often. but we will get 3 days of 4-8 inches, so it adds up.
however, the lower peninsula gets much more severe weather in the warmer months, usually, then western new york. areas in southern michigan have a tornado ratio on par with areas of tornado alley. however, now that i am on the eastern side of the state, we dont get lake effect here much. very rare. we got 3 inches today, a decent day of snow. but it might snow for 4 more days, so well get maybe a foot by the time its over.
Well I know Michigan got Lake effect, but it starts on the Western side of the state and just picks up more moisture when it runs through the other two lakes next to Buffalo.
In Bradford we got Lake Effect every once in awhile, but like you said, it all adds up and it sure does.
Heck we are suppose to get snow again this weekend. What is happening to this world?
