I'll keep you in mind. There's a curling place in Niagara Falls, ON, and one in Rochester. Some friends are talking up taking a roadie to try it.

Do just that. Let me know if anything develops.

Curling is so badass. Mel and I were watching it last night while trying, note trying, to study for an exam. It was so intense.

I've watched several hours of curling so far during these Olympics, and I still have no idea what the hell is going on. Yet I keep coming back for more. Maybe one day I will figure it out.

My brother wants me to build a curling sheet out back instead of a full rink.

That's not gonna happen. :)

what about that british girl with the half black hair? ;)

Curling is great because of the apparent simplicity of the game and how intense the players get by simply sliding a stone down the ice into a bullseye. it makes everyone believe that they can play the sport with relative ease in contrast with something like hockey or figure skating.

for a weird ass sport, check out cricket. it is, seriously, a game of pickle with 2 runners where they carry bats and can hit the ball.

Yes. My father had played Cricket in England. He hated baseball. We visited England one year and watched his old Cricket team play - with him in the lineup for the first time in 20 years. He asked me what I thought to the game. I used his exact description of baseball; "too much bloody standing around!"

He conceded sports like Cricket and baseball are obviously cultural in interest.

the truth is its fucking hard as hell. one, to keep proper form, and you have to have perfect balance and strength to hold the form, then to actually have the form and use it to get it there? fucking HARD AS HELL. then to rotate the stone ever so slightly to get it to turn. on the other hand you have to sweep so hard, i was gasping for breath and my abs were on fire after just 1 stone!

your theory is correct, but the truth is, i had a harder time learning how to throw the rock, then i did learning how to hockey stop. its not a "pick up and play" sport.

Mike, he's saying it's not a pick-up-and-play sport by saying that it's a lot harder that it appears to be.

Jeremy White was trashing it this morning, rambling about how he could be a sweeper and not be any worse than anyone on the team now. After someone emailed him to remind him that he'd have to throw stones too, he thinks he could learn it before the 2014 and be able to compete at the Olympic level.

Fucking moron.

Irony, I was wondering about the ice surface in curling. How do they get the ice the way they do? It's completely different from hockey ice.

They start with a flat sheet. Then, they basically sprinkle water on the ice to create the pebbling. That's a simplistic explanation, but basically what they're doing.
