i just think if someone is going to break the law, they should be prepared to accept every and all consequence. even if the apprehension sucks major dick, well, sorry about your bad luck.

Using that logic, the cop should have pulled his 9mm and "busted a cap in that fool's ass".

Egh not really. I mean the kid knows he is going to be apprehended at some point, so he knows he's either going to get tackled, clocked, tased or all three. I think Irony implied that the consequences be reasonable to the law being broken.

Like if you rob a bank, you should expect to get shot. If you assault someone, you should expect to get clocked, tased, maced, whatever.

And if you run around on the field, you should get tackled. Not fucking tasered. What if that kid had a heart condition?

Some situations dictate the use of less-than-lethal force. This one? Not in my book. Pepper spray, maybe. Or the fatass cop could lose about 20 pounds, and slide tackle the fucker.

Could be allergic to Pepper Spray :P I don't disagree that the Taser was a bit over the top. But as more and more stories of its use achieve national recognition, it has to play across your mind as something you may wind up on the wrong end of.

Either way, the kid is a dumbass for running on the field.

99.9999999% of the time, a tasering is not a big deal, it works safely and effectively. the kid trespassed, and was apprehended safely and effectively. if you have a heart condition, dont do something stupid that could endanger that, and if you dont know you do, you still are doing something very stupid that gives reason for someone to take such a measure to be apprehended.

thats my view. you do something stupid, any reasonable way to catch the fucker within reason, is fine in my book.

cry some more. he knows it's illegal to run onto the field. he got tased, he deserved it. all that what if shit is stupid. if he had a heart condition, the idiot shouldn't have ran on the field. conversely, what if he had a weapon and was planning on attacking a player? wah wah wah

Mike and Mike had someone call in saying that each ballpark should have their own unique way of apprehending fans.

I don't disagree, I'm just playing devils advocate, with a dash of "we can use better judgment".

Mike, have you been tasered before?

Instead of the 7th inning stretch, you get the 7th inning shooter. Certain fans get to (for a fee) go down to the field and shoot the opposing team's mascot with some professional paintball markers ;)

Cops have to use judgment. It's plain as day that the kid was not a physical threat to anyone else at that time, so why did the cop decide IMMEDIATELY that the taser was required? The kid was on the field for about 10 seconds before he pulled it out.

Maybe they should have just pulled out the glock and pumped a few into him, just in case you know. Can't be too careful these days.

A silly act by the kid shouldn't be enough to justify the poor decision by the officer.

(As a side note, I'm sure the taxpayers in Philadelphia really enjoy the fact that they're paying a cop to watch a baseball game instead of out patrolling the streets trying to prevent, I dunno, serious crimes. )

I'm perfectly fine with the guy getting the tasered. I mean lets face it, a guy the size of Phil tackles you when you're both running full stride, it's going to do a lot more than temporarily dehabilitate you. You're going to sustain some type of injury.

STAY THE FUCK OFF THE FIELD YOU'RE NOT PLAYING IN THIS GAME

To me, it's like these stupid kids that walk up and verbally abuse a police officer, and tempt him into doing something, then scream violation of civil liberties when it happens. You want to avoid the worst possible out comes of things, dont put yourself in that situation. End of discussion for me.

I don't think I could be a punishing hitter (although I did pummel that huge kid in backyard football at the company picnic last year), I was just taking it as a fat joke cuz I'm, well, a fatty. ;)

If I'm not mistaken, cops can pick up gigs like this in their "off hours", and are allowed to wear their uniforms.

I can't back this statement up, it's just something I think I heard somewhere.

jay also brought up an excellent point, is their anything worse then some kids acting foolish, getting caught, and then making themselves out to be the victim? my old room mate got pulled over for drunk driving, and the cop lightened up, and charged him with an OUI, instead of a DUI. OUI is still serious, but a little lighter. did the kid learn? no! he proclaimed the cop had no reason to pull him over (he was heading in the opposite direction of kalamazoo, when trying to drive home) and said the only lesson he learned was that "pigs fuck peoples lives up for no reason."
