Driving in NYC isn't all that bad if you ask me. That doesn't mean take your car though. I'm with everybody else here telling you public transit is the way to go. Parking is the main difficulty in having your car with you, and I have driven there. Traffic in the city itself usually isn't too bad, but getting in and out of the city can be a friggin nightmare. Bring comfortable shoes because walking is unavoidable there.
