Uh because it affected DC....duh... plus it was .5 magnitude stronger than that piddly 5.3 in Colorado. :snooty: Even here some of the local news stations were so focused on the minor cosmetic damages to buildings in DC and only briefly mentions significantly damaged building in Va. They didn't even talk much about the nuclear power plant that was only a few miles away from the epicenter.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

fun fact: each point on the richter scale (which is just an index and becoming a little obsolete) is 10x as strong in magnitude as the previous number.

i.e. a 6.0 is ten times as strong as a 5.0, a 7.0 is 100 times as strong as a 5.0, and an 8.0 is 1000 times as strong as a 5.0.

I was confused because I'm moving to VA in two months. People were asking me if I felt the quake but I had only heard of the VA one...and I fucking live in CO  I was like...I'm not in Virginia yet and then got the "Didn't you hear about the quake in Colorado too?" .

Lol, if you were here you definitely would not have missed it. I was three floors up in a new courthouse when it happened and it was definitely noticeable. Plus I was about 60-70 miles away from the epicenter. Your moving to Va Beach, correct?

An earthquake and a hurricane in New York...in the same week.

That is a little out of the norm.

What's next, volcanoes in the Catskills?
