There will be a point in time that pegging the breathalyzer isn't going to be the highlight of you life.

...I caught my first, last and only DUI 19 years ago (up in Canadia) - Blew a .238 and still passed field-sobriety, coordination and memory tests...I just reeked of alcohol.

Cost me my license for one year, and $1000. I got off easy - But, that was years ago; before they treated you like a baby-killer.

When I was doing EMS both on a volunteer and paid basis, I was witness to countless episodes where a drunk driver caused an accident that severely injured someone else, and the drunk intoxicated individual walked away without a scratch. It's not just some overblown statistic, I bore witness to it repeatedly.

I'm not going to pontificate on the topic, nor will I judge anyone for what they have done in the past. But I will say that driving while intoxicated sets me off in a way that's difficult to describe in words. I haven't taken and EMS call in about 5 years, and I still have nightmares about some of the shit I saw 10 years ago.

I'll admit it - It's chemically-induced stupidity. That's why it's called in-TOXIC-ation...one poisons one's brain to the point of dysfunction.

I'm guilty as anyone of driving drunk in my time, though I've never had a DWI despite a few field sobriety tests that I fortunately passed. These days, though, I almost never drive drunk because Mrs. ETC is a great designated driver and I'm only too happy to relinquish the keys. One of the perks of marriage!

It absolutely does. My father was a raging alcoholic. I'm talking go get cranked, come home, beat up my mom, trash the house, all the good shit.

To his credit, he's been clean and sober for 21 years. Although he and I don't speak for reasons unrelated to his drinking, I give him full marks for that.

People just need to realized when they've had enough or not be so stubborn and give up the keys to someone sober or fork over the money to call for a ride. I will admit that I have driven before when I shouldn't have but I'm usually the DD so I know when to say no or when to cut myself off. In high school I was a part of SADD and every year we had a slide show of pictures from accidents around the area caused by drunk drivers, they finally hit home when one of the mangled bodies in the picture was someone I knew.

Although I have been drinking at ETC's Pub almost nightly; I do not drive myself there - or home from there - ever.

Thus, the beauty of ETC's Pub. A place where everybody drinks hard, but nobody has ever driven drunk! ZERO DWIs~!

I hate working nights; no one to party with in the afternoon. Guess I'll sip some of this: Image
