let me just add that i lurked on the 'old boards' for years, watched the big split happen, lurked here for a long while, and THEN decided to come out of hiding. And after bouncing over there to see what all the fuss is about, I don't think I'm interested in renewing my 'lurking' on the old boards. I know it's not moderated, but why any self-respecting individual would want to listen to put-downs by some nameless, faceless (at least faceless to me) "hockey know-it-all" is beyond me! If someone can make it better, that'd be a good thing.

The only thing I like about the 'old' boards is that it's the teams official site. I'm fairly certain the players, at least some of them, at some point while doodling around on the web have come across the fan forum and read some stuff. Maybe they dont return, and maybe they lurk a bit longer, but i'd be super surprised if the players dont actually read some of this stuff. And quite frankly, I want stafford to know we all think he sucks chode, he NEEDS to know this.

I think the younger guys might go check them out from time to time, but I doubt the vets do. A lot of professional athletes don't like that stuff because it's usually full of baseless criticisms, and they don't want to deal with it.

When the new build, layout, color scheme, and mod tools go into effect, I'll be going back. It won't be a lawless wasteland anymore and I'll be happy to post there again. Doesn't mean I'll be leaving this place, though. This place is still heaven compared to pretty much any Sabres message board.

I gotta say I agree here. Personally if I was being paid a shit ton of money to do something I love I would certainly want to know that they thought I was earning my keep. Maybe they are seeing something myself or the coaches are not. Its like a free outside consultant. The only difference with free sport loving outside consultants and paid dont care ones is that the free ones wont give you a slug and say its a Buffalo.

If I were an athlete, I would probably check out forums about the team on occasion. It's something that most don't do, but there are some that definitely do it. They let comments slip on occasion that betray they do.

If I were a celebrity, I would troll fan forums about me by posting about how much I suck and get banned from my own forums.
