Shit. That Android phone coming out for AT&T has put me in a huge pickle.

As you all know, my iPhone went through the washer. I was gonna replace it with an iPhone 4, but now that these Droids were announced I'm really liking the Atrix. Problem is that I don't know when it is coming out and if it's like, March 31, I wouldn't really want to wait that long.

Beth, AT&T is clearing out stock on the 3GS. $49. It's supposed to be on new contract only, but you might be able to work them a bit and get it without reupping.

Yeah, but if it came out soon as in within 30 days soon, I could get the iPhone for cheap right now and then return it within 30 days for a restocking fee and then get the Droid. I don't want to fuck myself over and get stuck with the phone I don't want, though.

Heh, Google admitted that there is a bug on Android that will end up sending SMS message to a recipient other than the one you specified in the message. Of course, you'll probably have to wait 3-6 months for their fix.

Could you imagine if this happened on an iPhone? The tech media would blow a load trying to shit on Apple for it.

It's not so much that one is purely better than the other, really. It comes down to brand loyalty and/or specifics. The specs are all pretty much the same, Beth. But people buy HTC cuz they like the Sense UI, people buy Samsung because they like Touchwiz, and people buy Motorola because of Motoblur. It comes down to aesthetics, too, obviously.

Me, I like the Atrix most of the three new AT&T Android devices because of the dock and webtop mounts. Sure they might be gimmicky, but it really powers up the phone.

Personally, I'd stay away from the Samsung device...4.3" seems to be the Android standard for displays, and the Samsung device packs a 4.5" display which would lead to weird resolution issues with games and videos, I'd think.

i think alot of that comes from the arrogance alot of apple fans have. kinda like when yankee fans proclaim their greatness, and when something bad happens, everyone enjoys the shit out of it. thats how i see it. thats where alot of my anti-apple sentiment comes from, i think. but, thats my opinion, and mine alone.

I know, that's my problem. While I wouldn't *mind* having an iPhone 4 for the next while, I really was wanting a nice Android phone and now they're finally out. It just really fucking sucks not having a smart phone right now and I have really fucked myself by leaving my phone in my pocket so Mark could wash it.

I really do like the Atrix, though. Really, really, really want it.

Oh, and I have the unlimited data plan for the iPhone right now. Would I still have that for the Droid?

Well, every other provider makes their data plans interchangable between devices (ie, switching from Blackberry to Android). I would have to guess your iPhone plan would be retained if you activated an Android device.

It's not an unreasonable position. There are some very vocal Apple proponents who never see them do any wrong. They sometimes drown out the reasonable analysis.

It just comes down to the failure of the tech media for me. Take this bug for example. Androidguys wrote an article about how the bug didn't exist, and that people were reporting it to Google because they heard about the problem, not because they experienced it.

Now that Google has acknowledged it, they put a small blurb at the top of the article, with the following comment:



Seems reasonable, right?

Now, when the iPhone 4 antenna issues were reported, they were reported by a small segment of the user base under very specific conditions. Apple said that, and had numbers to back it up, yet still got shit on left and right for it.

How are the two any different?

No. The plan you have is unlimited iPhone data. They have separate data plans for all other smartphones.

It's not different at all, and I'm kinda disappointed that Google hasn't gotten tossed under the bus about this yet.
