Actually clinical, or long term depression can be caused by a lack of a certain chemical in the brain. This causes, or fails to cause synaptic firings of certain strings of neurons. Anti-depressants help the body restore these chemicals and with therapy, the body may begin to once again produce those chemicals without the drug returning that individual to a productive and happy life, quite possibly to achieve great things, or merely to life a happy life with his family.

It's easy for someone who is fortunate enough to be comfortably healthy with comfortable surroundings and pass judgments like natural selection to thin out people with deficiencies. Live the life and have someone tell you to commit suicide because you are not, at that moment, worthy of life. I did and was fortunate enough to have lived though it...a friend didn't.

By the way, Einstein was clinically depressed...Poe was and alcoholic drug addict...Freud was a drug addict....many deep thinkers in our history were "unstable" and not normal....should they have been eliminated?

This thread may be getting emotionally out of hand and away from the topic.....

I agree, ItsMe.

Enough of the natural selection crap.

Anyone ever have real bad side effects from getting the Flu shot? I've never had one before and don't think I'll be getting one. With this whole H1N1 shit going around though, I may be foreced to change my mind...

I got the flu once from a flu shot.....

but I take a drug to suppress an overactive immune system, so flu shots are a necessity for me. Although I wouldnt want what she has, for me, the risk of death is not an option.....there are too many women here-bouts who need my expertise and attention.....Too much alcohol to consume.

Well that's good because it means you developed the anitbodies necessary to fight off the flu.

Really? I take methrotrexate...it allows me the luxury of leading a normal, productive...and looooong life. The flu shot is usually a combination of the leading upcoming virus strains.....plus a pneumonia shot every five years.....I dont mind. in fact given the alternatives, to coin a 60's and 70's phrase....better living through chemistry. lol

You ever think that the lack of a certain chemical we produce is part of us? What makes us different?

Now i'm not talking about mental retardation or anything like that at all. There are some of us born with the potential to become normal human beings, but science has chosen otherwise. I have tried to do my part to fight these terrible diseases. I have worked in disability homes and what not.

And again, not talking about serious diseases, but "no one likes me" has become a teenage depression that teen's have been tempted to use lots of drugs to fix.

You can go to the doctor's and get your hands on almost any "fix". Kind of scary.

I think people need to toughen up sometimes. Some people feel way too sorry for themselves. Life is tough.

I understand that you don't like Nirvana, but they were a tremendously influential and great band. In spite of all they accomplished, they cannot be credited for the concept of teen angst. Teen angst has been a staple of rock & roll since day one.

i got all my "teen angst" stored away in a box, in the basement of my dad's house. i take it out every once in a while...just to see what it looks like.

it hasn't held up too well - not like my "young-kid, shiny-world optimism". but, even that's looking a tad shabby.

I'm curious as to what other nonsense you want to blame Cobain for. Global warming maybe? How about the war in Iraq?

You have pretty strong opinions about the guy considering that you were all of 10 years old when he died.

and as a 10 year old, his shallow and generic music wasnt a difficult concept for me to grasp.

Many music scholars disagree with you.

But what do they know.

No, that's not the way it is.

That's how YOU THINK it is. You don't like Cobain and Nirvana. I get that. I don't have a problem with that. But just because YOU have a negative opinion doesn't mean that he was any less influential an artist.

You said disagree, but that is how it is.

Even if someone disagrees with you you are just not going to care, that is just how you worded it, and the way you worded it makes it seem like a fact.

Cobain might have been a nutjob sometimes, but to say he was influential as an artist is downright wrong. He basically invented an entire genre of music.
