They won't be, at least not to the level that Apple does. I expect to read articles within the week about how the openness of Android allowed users to find the bug, and say that Apple's closed system wouldn't allow that.

Except for the fact that Google's engineer's found the bug in the code, not any users, at least according to the bug report I'm reading.

i think alot of that comes from the arrogance alot of apple fans have. kinda like when yankee fans proclaim their greatness, and when something bad happens, everyone enjoys the shit out of it. thats how i see it. thats where alot of my anti-apple sentiment comes from, i think. but, thats my opinion, and mine alone.


It's not an unreasonable position. There are some very vocal Apple proponents who never see them do any wrong. They sometimes drown out the reasonable analysis.

It just comes down to the failure of the tech media for me. Take this bug for example. Androidguys wrote an article about how the bug didn't exist, and that people were reporting it to Google because they heard about the problem, not because they experienced it.

Now that Google has acknowledged it, they put a small blurb at the top of the article, with the following comment:

The Android SMS bug appears to be real, but dependent on a very specific condition that does not exist for most users. That's why most people cannot reproduce it.


Seems reasonable, right?

Now, when the iPhone 4 antenna issues were reported, they were reported by a small segment of the user base under very specific conditions. Apple said that, and had numbers to back it up, yet still got shit on left and right for it.

How are the two any different?


well, i give apple all the credit in the world for acknowledging the problem and offering a fix. thats good on them. i would hope google would do the same and fix the issue.

Wow...the circumstances of the SMS bug are WEAK.

If you send an SMS to a number that isn't stored in your contacts, it saves it in a table. When it checks that table later, it only checks the last 5 digits of a number. So, as far as it's concerned, these are the same:

sqlite> SELECT * FROM canonical_addresses;
1|0119195551212
2|9195551212

So if you tried to send an SMS to number 2, it would match number 1 and send it there.

Holy 2nd semester programming fail.

You're still in school, so be careful with it. You can waste a lot of time doing shit in there if you're not paying attention.

It's a fun game, more fun now that I don't spend 20 hours a week playing it. :)

I don't know what's nerdier, you two playing it or me knowing the entire storyline of the Warcraft universe from to back without having every played WoW (I'm a HUGE WC1-WC3 fan, though)

I'll spoil it for you if you want to know. :)

The new Lich King is Bolvar Fordragon. He died at the Battle of the Wrathgate, and was brought back to life by Arthas and tortured. His body was badly burned when the red dragonflight came in and burned the area after the battle, so he looks charred with magical flame still burning on his body.

Arthas couldn't break Fordragon, and was distracted as the players attack Icecrown Citadel. When Arthas dies, Tirion Fordring realizes that there must always be a Lich King to control the Scourge. He plans to do this himself, and Fordragon shows up. He takes the helm from Arthas, and puts it on, becoming the new Lich King.
