Alright...so, a little update on my ~situation~

I got the schedule today and of course I'm scheduled to work this Friday at 6. One of the reasons why they said that I couldn't have off was because they don't have enough people to work in the box office (only a few of us are trained to work box office). Well, one of my co-workers who is also trained in box office is scheduled to work concessions that night while they also gave three concessionists off (none of them requested off, they just gave them the night off). What I want to know is why the hell didn't they just schedule one of those three concessionists that they gave off and put my one co-worker who is trained to work box office in the box office in the first place? Especially when they knew damn well that working on Friday night was going to be tough for me.

It's like they're purposely trying to screw me over. I'm currently trying to see if any of the concessionists who are off will take my shift for me... But I have a question. Do you think it would be out of line of me to confront my manager and ask why he didn't schedule them in the first place and let me have off when he knew that I couldn't work Friday?

Don't have a source for this, but I've heard tell that there are studies that indicate Friday is the best day to fire someone from the employer's perspective. The reason I've heard is that there's much less of a chance for a confrontation or incident.

Showed that movie to my film class last fall, so it hasn't even been a year since the last time I saw it and I still didn't realize the source. I'm such an idiot.

I've heard that directly from a HR person so it's not all BS...my company usually does it on Friday or Tuesdays. The logic behind Tuesday is it's not as depressing as Monday and you still have most of the week to look for a new job.

The last major "action" (lovely euphemism) we had was about 2500 people on our main campus back east...they had the entire HR department roaming the halls scouting for trouble and armed guards outside.

Boy I'm glad I don't work in that office.

New vent -- my parents just got separated, and now I get the privileged of road tripping across the east coast with my dad so I can babysit my sick aunt. We're in the shadiest Vermont motel right now; I feel like I'm sitting on a bed spread made of sperm. Good times.

the fucking contest on Icethetics just fucked me over. the accepted entries for the for the contest were posted today and mine wasnt among them. i email chris, the guy who runs the site, and i told him that my stuff isnt on there and that everything was properly submitted and all that.

i get an email back from him a little while ago saying that the most common reason things werent accepted was because the artist didnt have their name and email on the image(s). this is what did me over. the problem with this is that THAT WAS NEVER FUCKING SAID ANYWERE! beyond that, when we submitted the images, there was a short form to fill out that INCLUDED OUR NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS. couple things...1 what happened to the damn forms that were submitted? shouldnt have those been electronically attached to them or something? 2, why would we need to have our name and email on the image if it was on the fucking form?

right now im waiting to hear back from chris again...my stuff can no longer be judged, but i sent it to him anyway...he said it might show up on the site...like that would be a consolation. i really thought i had a chance to win, most of the accepted entries are garbage. its safe to say that i feel royally fucked.

for what its worth, heres my submissions

Kinda depends on how you approach it. I think getting someone to cover the concession shift first is best either way. But as far as "confronting", it might be much less about what you say and much more about how you say it. If you're like "Dude, what the fuck, you knew I can't work Friday", etc., I wouldn't expect much. But maybe if you say "hey, if you have a minute, I wanted to ask you about the schedule...", it could go entirely differently.

But please take any interpersonal advice from me with a grain of salt. I've never been told my personality is smooth as silk and I've rubbed plenty of people the wrong way.

Yeah, I want to be polite about it...but I'm really pissed off at how they've treated me over this whole thing. They basically ganged up on me and made me out to be someone that they know I'm not. Hopefully I'll find someone to take my shift because this shit is just too ridiculous to get all bent out of shape over. I have too much stuff to deal with right now.

Former employers rarely give a bad reference. They generally only confirm dates of employment, job titles, and rates of pay. Most won't even discuss the hows and whys that a person left.

If a company says anything about a former employer that isn't factually true, they are in violation of a ton of labor laws, and it gets costly.

I wouldn't worry too much about the theater saying much of anything about you Caro.
