Sorry if this has been posted gang. If so, Mods please merge.. It was announced yesterday that in a $60 Mil. project, hockey will once again be played at Maple Leaf gardens. In a deal cut with Ryerson University and Loblaws Grocery Stores inc. the gardens will be brought back to life, and hockey will be played on it's ice again. Now, don't get me wrong. I hate everything and anything that has to deal with the Maple Leafs. But the fact that is the last of the original 6 buildings left standing and in somewhat operational status, this is huge among us who love any tid bit of hockey history. I'm glad I got a chance to witness a game in this old barn and was also there for the first night of the Battle of the Blades back in Oct. This building is hockey. One of the best weekends of my life was spent in Toronto. I went to a Saturday night Leafs game at MLG, stayed at The Carleton Inn, and hung out in TO for the weekend. The hotel room window overlooked the roof of Maple Leaf Gardens. Had Pizza at a restaurant across from MLG after the game. At the table to our right was HNIC's Ralph Mellanby and Brian McFarland. At the table to the left sat The Nordiques Dan Bouchard and Dale Hunter. It was very groovy, Baby. Glad to hear it's not being razed. |
