Since the Bills weren't playing today (that was the Washington Generals on the field, right?), I decided to go see the new James Cameron movie, Avatar. I ponied up the $13 to see it in 3D, and I'm glad I did. First of all, this is no Casablanca or Godfather, so if you decide to go don't think you are going to hear timeless dialogue. James Cameron movies aren't known for their great writing. This is a drive-in movie and as such it is pretty amazing. The 3D isn't used for shock value (stuff flying at your face, audiences screaming in surprise, etc.), but rather enhances the movie experience. He uses it to take the audience into the movie world, not remind them that they are sitting in a theatre with a bunch of other people recoiling at the objects flying at their heads. The movie is visually beautiful, especially for the first 90 minutes (it is long, clocking in at 2hrs.40min). The world he created is luminescent. You find yourself curious to see what lies around the next tree. The story is basically an allegory of first contact between the Indians and Europeans, so there is nothing too out-of-the-box original there, but, even still, I found myself getting caught up in it all the same. The last hour is pretty much a video-game shoot-em up, and if you like that stuff (Transformers, etc.) you will enjoy that part of the movie (I start to lose interest easily when the robot missiles start flying). An old fashion matinee movie. |

I don't know, I would have to see it, but it looks like another epic explosion war movie again, all the same stuff like Transformers. |

Spend the extra money and see the 3D. Like I said, the first 90 minutes is beautiful. |

I'm not really into Sci-Fi movies, but this one is intriguing for me. I'll definitely go see it, because James Cameron gave me Titanic, and I get to see it for fee, I might as well. Crosscheck wrote: Is it in IMAX 3D too? Yep. |

Cameron is supposedly reworking Titanic for a 3D release in two years. |

I'm really looking forward to watching Leonardo DiCraprio's face get submerged as if I was right there next to him! Who knows? I might even extend a boot out towards his pretty boy face if he thinks he's gonna resurface. Ham |

An old fashion matinee movie. the movie was great. im hesitant to say amazing but it was most definitely great. the CGI was nearly flawless the characters were great. i agree about the dialogue, it was like a step or two above star wars but thats not the point. i more or less describe it as the offspring of pocahontas, lord of the rings and star wars (if 3 way breeding were possible). i also loved the allegory-ness. Conclusion: go see it. i want to see it again. i dislike James Cameron even more. |

It's probably because the plot and dialogue are both apparently weak. This movie is getting bad reviews from critics but mostly excellent ones from audiences. Sounds suspiciously like another James Cameron film. I just want to see it for the visual aspect. |

That's totally fucking win, Aaron. Also, damn the plot and writing. Damn the fact that Cameron outright stole the whole fucking concept, imagery, and characters from a novel in the '50's (yes, he really did). It looks fucking GORGEOUS. |
