I realize the ground is frozen for most of us, but I am still preparing to deal with the crabgrass that is invading my lawn, this spring. Has anyone found a good way/product, that gets rid of crabgrass in an established yard? I have tried the preventer stuff from the local lawn and garden shop, but it only seems to slow it's spread a little - at the end of the summer, I still had more than in the beginning of the summer. Any help would be appreciated |

I hear the best method is to trim and comb regularly, in conjunction with using some crab killers like RID. Good luck! |

Yeah, no help from me but you reminded me of something funny from my childhood. My best friends Dad, a former English teacher, had a sign on his barn which read: "Warning This area infected with Digitaria" (the Latin name for crabgrass) Maybe you could just find one of those signs and say eff it? |

I went online and looked at various methods of eradicating it - I think the nuke it from outer space suggestion might be best!!! I do have another four months, at least, before I have to look at it!! |

Even though you didn't get a lot of help on this one, we sincerely hope you were briefly entertained. |

Dig it out, plant new grass? Once you get rid of it the best thing to do is make sure it doesn't come back. Small patches are easy to get rid of. |

I'm a bit of an environmentalist granted, but my though is if you care about your lawn so much, why use an herbicide on it? Yes, it's much, much easier than physically removing the weeds. But I don't believe that weed killers aren't going to hurt your lawn and end up in your ground water. Might be time for the garden weasel. |

I've just yet to find a weed killer that actually works well. You can find ones that kill everything (Roundup) but either you end up damaging the soil so nothing grows well there, or the weeds/crabgrass seem to grow right back. My front yard has zero weeds in it - no crabgrass, no dandelions, nothing. But it took a long time to get that way. Now, every time a weed pops up, I dig it out so that it can't re-grow or spread. However, that's not at all practical for a yard full of dandelions or weeds - sometimes I think turning over the ground and re-planting the grass might be the best option. |

There are some decent products for prevention. Once crab grass germinates, I think it's something you have to live with for that year. The preventative products work fairly well; PROVIDED Mother Nature cooperates. I have had years where it works well, and years it does little. |
