Hey gang,

I wanted to share this with you, the faithful, my show of support/respect/tribute (whatever you like) to not only our Sabres, but the memory of the House Perreault, Martin, Robert, Lafontaine, Gare and Horton built.

I've called it, T&D Memorial Auditorium (will be placing logo in the ice soon) out of respect for the history of our boys and the memory of the Aud.

It's not finished yet, but we're almost close to puck drop! Dan Craig, eat our heart out! Once she's finished, I'll get a picture of the official puck drop.

Also, this thread is dedicated to anyone who also has started their own rink build! POST YOUR PICS!!! :D

I didn't have enough time this year to get one in, but next year it will be up for sure. Hoping to make it about 30' x 80' or therabouts.

That would be an awesome size, Squanto! I wish we had that kind of space for it!

Ours is pretty small, only 10x40 (limited space) but next season will be bigger for sure. This is the first build I've done since I was a kid, but it;s something to get out and have some fun with!

This is about as close to Sabres ice as we can get *for now* until we make our way back down to the B-Lo!!!

Can't wait to head that way again man! This time, it's the 300 level! Hopefully we can round up enoug of us in one section!

Yeah, I have .8 acres of land with the house in the middle, and the area I have spotted out for the rink is down by a creek, so it should be a good spot.

Let me know how the packed snow base works out. I'm leaning towards a poly base, but interested in a frozen slush base like you're doing.

We have the same hat, haha. I, like Squanto lacked the motivation and time to do this this year.

However there is a small rink in a parking lot in the town of Baldwinsville I want to go skate on once it gets a little colder.

How cold does it need to be for the ice to not be shitty anyways?

Well, we started off with packed snow/slush. It wasn't too cold the last week when we started the build, so we opted for some plastic sheet. With the packed snow however, we managed to get down about an inch of ice! I was shocked at this but that area of the yard is pretty boggy anyway. So I guess it kind of acted as a refridgeration unit for the plastic!

I built one years ago with a snow/slush base and it does take a lot longer. Especially if the weather doesn't work with you. Thankfully, tonight it hit -10 *c so as I was layin the water, it was freezing just as fast! But snow base woulda worked, had mother nature worked with us and stayed cold!

From my experience, CV, I'd say that between 0 and - 5 gives you some decent ice. Of course, that would be about 32 - 23 Fahrenheit. I usually freeze my pucks as well, just to give it that rink feeling for stickhandling to boot.

i'm jealous ! someday i want to build a good rink....i half asked tried building one 2 winters ago....measured about 40' x 100'....i used no plastic just stomped snow down ...one night i stood outside in -10 windchills for 8 hours straight !!! the rink really never ended up panning out as i started it too late in the season....

next time i am doing it right....putting down some thick plastic, and building boards around the whole rink....i even want to make the boards strong enough for checking ! will be gnarly if i ever am able to do it....
