Is it 123456, password, 12345678, pussy, or 1234? Those are considered the top five worst passwords of all time (the link is for the top 500 worst passwords). (Pussy? Really?) http://www.whatsmypass.com/the-top-500- ... f-all-time Approximately one out of every fifty people uses one of the passwords listed in the top 20. It is probably not hard to write a program that searches the top 500 in order to break into people's computers/accounts. Mix 'em up, folks. Numbers, letters, caps, etc. Avoid pop culture references (NCC1701 - #139 on the list). |

Mine is 9 letters long. Best bet to make a password is to open the dictionary and just find a word. That is what I did. |

Mine is composed of made-up abbreviations of common household items. Good luck. I've used the same password for everything since I was twelve. |

Out of 200k-ish customer email accounts we have, about 6% have a password consisting of 6 consecutive letters or numbers. It's pretty sad actually. Our tech support agents keep setting passwords to 'abc123' when customers need it reset, (even after I've told them not to and scripted them a random password generator) and customers never change it. |

If you're better with patterns, something like q12wQ!@W will work, but not nearly as well. |

also dont use english words in your passwords, use french, spanish, german, slang, just things that arent normal english and incorporate numbers into it too. My passwords for most of my things are in a different language and have incorporated #'s into it too. I Haven never had ANYTHING hacked into lol. So Im good. |

But using every word in a dictionary, that would take them fools hours, even days since it isn't one of the first words, more like last. |

Ahh, the bliss of ignorance...go ahead and use xylophone if you want. It still isn't going to take very long. My stance is and always has been, if it's worth them getting, they're going to get it. Chances are 1) they don't give a shit what you have, or 2) they're going to backdoor into your system and take what they want. If they want your bank info or other login info, they're probably going to first try social engineering (if they're a hacker worth their salt...for example, now I know that I need to use a dictionary attack against you), and if that doesn't work, they're going to try sniffing your network to find what they want. Then you've got the ever-present trojans. Getting you to download one of those would work, too. |
