As I get more serious about writing, I should actually have the ability to print from my own computer. Anyone have any recommendations for printers?

Must Haves:
Color
Decent Printing Rate
Ability to print double sided.

I'm not really bound by cost, but obviously the cheaper the better.

I recently ditched a high price epson all in one for a Kodak based on ink price alone.

We love the Kodak so far.
If you're really concerned about speed though, you talking about laser printers, and color laser is out of my league.
I let my office pay those prices.

Probably beyond what I'm willing to pay, haha.

Yeah my old printer that died a year ago was the free Dell printer I got with my old computer.

My Kodak is the ESP9...it's an all-in-one (which we actually need and use), fax, scanner, printer, copier.
I think we paid around $300 for it, but like I mentioned, the main selling point is Kodak has the cheapest ink.

Printers are a racket...most companies will give you the printer dirt cheap because they know they can soak you for years to come on ink.

Look towards the Kodak esp9, the Hp Photosmart premium and possibly for great efficiency, the Hp officejet 6500 wireless (or the cheaper wired version, whatever floats your boat). I will have to look up specs for the OJ, I do not remember if it prints double sided.

Yeah, printer ink is insane. I think it's more expensive than oil on a per gallon basis.

The last time I purchased a combo pack of black & color ink ($50?), I was told after I checked out; "We refill these for you for $10.00" :o Since I'd already accumulated a half dozen or so empty cartridges for proper recycling, I returned what I had just purchased, went back the next day with my empty cartridges and had them filled at less than half price. I had it done at Office Max.

I have an HP PSC 1610 All in-one that I love.

You can buy DIY kits for refilling ink as well; that being said, for printing double-sided, it's really not ideal.

A laserjet printer is what you want CV; though the price is definitely NOT. If you would relinquish the color requirement, it would get back in your budget quickly, as a HP Laserjet 1320 can print 2 sided using toner (I think the toner cycle is something like 5000 pages) and costs around $120.

Yeah, refilling carts is the way to go if you're going to go inkjet. I had a Dell 950 all in one that worked quite well, but I think I'm going laser next time around.

I've owned Lexmark, Canon, HP, and Epson printers.

From my experience, the HPs are tops in print quality, durability, and price.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of writing are you getting into?

Haha, I will respond to this later.

I was looking at the HP Officejet6000, and it looekd decent. Is there a chart breakdown of ink prices somewhere?

I love charts.

Here's a list, in descending order, from most to least expensive (these are rounded figures, and not intended to be used as dollar comparisons).
    Your virginity
    Your first born child
    Fucking ridiculous
    Fucking expensive
    Expensive

I remember each cartridge for my crappy dell printer being around $30 or something like that.

You don't want to look at the cost of ink, per se; you want to look at cost per page. While inkjets and laser printers have become much more comparable (outside the corporate world), the various models have quite a range of difference.

Check out THIS article for some good info.
