As I told Schony earlier, Ive been debating about whether or not I should create this. It is my intention while starting this thread for it to be serious discussions, about Bible Verses and Interpretations of those verses. And other things. This is for the Christians to come together and talk about it, any non-Christians are welcome to comment and post as long as they are serious and wont hijack the thread. I already have Schony's discretion on this topic. DISCLAIMER Quote: "Your Mods request that this topic be treated with respect. If it is not the thread for you, then there are plenty of others to post in. Thanks. SG" You dont have to post here if you dont want to, but please be respectful. So basically I see this thread as a Online Bible Devotion or Bible study kinda thing. So I will start I guess with prolly one of the most famous verses in the Bible. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. I think that verse is pretty self explanatory, or at least I think it is. |

My favourites: If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. (Levicticus 20:13) You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) and I realize thats old testament so I figured I'd include some new stuff too: Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)" |

If this is a topic for discussion of biblical passages, I would like to hear opinion and discussion on interpretations of murdering homosexuals or the approval of slavery Mmmm I dont condone homosexuality or slavery. But you know as well as I that things change over time... I cant tell you what they were thinking when they made these rules. Me trying to explore my faith more, and trying to get back on track... I cant tell you why these rules were set... But I guess its all in context. You stated the Passage where Jesus talks about not abolishing the law... well which law is he referring to? I believe that he is referring to the 10 Commandments. And he said he will fulfill the prophecy, which was Him coming to earth, saving humanity, and being the Savior and God of all mankind. Like I said, its all through the interpretation of the person reading it. |

I have tip toed around really getting into it with Pants on threads like this before. OK, not really, because I never comment in them, so there's not really any tip toeing or such... but the desire is always there. I just don't think that a debate would do any good, so why bother. One-sided past research and the removal of context leads to knee-jerk rejections, and I know that though I would keep my composure and try to argue logically, for the most part others abandon both after a point. I am wary of internet debates for a multitude of reasons. Edit: A lot of it has to do with the level of relationship involved... Kind of goes with how I view psychology as well. Yeah, anyway. /pointless comment |

Idc how many times Homosexuals can show me a passage where the bible says it was ok to be homosexual, its all how you interpret it. But I have tried to accept everyone has their own opinion and therefore are entitled to believe what they want. |

I'm really confused as to how you can interpret slavery as being immoral even though the bible explcitly states that its A-OK with god. Whereas homosexuality, which is to be punished by murder, isn't allowed because god says no. I don't know how you can 'pick and choose' what passages to obey, and which to totally ignore |

Just like not every atheist lives their life completely contrary to religious teachings. I'm not a Christian, but I do pray from time to time, usually about others, I only pray for myself on major things like being successful in a field of my choosing, and the Sabres winning the Stanley Cup. |

As for slavery... My opinion is the slavery is wrong... but like i said before, everything is in the eye of the beholder. I mean its one way to look at does God condone slavery? or is it really servatude? We all know that there were servants in the Bible... and if God condoned slavery wouldnt he have let the Isrealites remain in egypt as slaves? There are bigger issues than Does God condone slavery, and do I agree with it. Remember things get lost in translation. Each version has different meanings. |

I think he's insinuating that Christians are hypocrites because they don't follow every bible passage to the letter, which is really stupid because by that logic, atheists would be hypocrites since their moral code isn't completely opposite the bible's. |

I think he's insinuating that Christians are hypocrites because they don't follow every bible passage to the letter, which is really stupid because by that logic, atheists would be hypocrites since their moral code isn't completely opposite the bible's. Also if an Atheist knew the REAL definition of the word... almost all of them could not be called that... because Atheist means that they dont believe in ANYTHING not even their own existance, so if they are willing to accept that, I guess they are but most arent, so they would be hypocrytes and as for Christians not following the Bible to the letter. No christian can follow it perfectly, there is no such thing as the perfect christian, cept Jesus haha. And the way people view the Bible is why there are many denominations. And I think the bottom line is,and I take this from the Movie "angels and demons" The priest says, "Im not asking you whether you believe what the world says about God, Its do you Believe in God" And I think thats a key point. While yes denominations and churches help us understand the bible and look into it deeper, the Bottom line is, Do you believe in God, not do you believe in what Baptists say about God, or Weslyans say about God, or what Atheists say about God. Its just plain and simple, Do you believe in God. |
