From the "FOR CHRISTIANS" thread: Quote: SABRESAllTheWay wrote: Well, the original idea for this thread was for rut to allow the Christians on this forum to talk about what they wanted to strictly staying along the lines of civil Christian discussion. From this post on I don't want to see a trainwreck antagonistic debate. Pants, your debate can go to another thread if wanted, but enoughs enough in this one. Consider this your warning. It appears here, that the new mod Sabresalltheway, has made a declaration that the christian thread will NOT be hijacked. This seems like a new, and rather unsettling precedent to set. Do we have 'authority' figures here telling us that other threads are untouchable? No. Apparently no other view is as important as what the christians on this board believe, and whatever us hell-bound athiests believe will not be tolerated? I firmly believe in Evolution. I believe in it so fervently that an outside viewer might regard it as a religious view. It at least appears to me, to be as important to me, as the christian god/bible is to christians. HOWEVER, if I start a thread saying "hey, evolutionists, lets talk about evolution!" there is NO FUCKING WAY anyone is going to step in and keep it from being hijacked or derailed. If it gets too heated some mod will come along and lock it, but no one is going to step in and force people to respect my opinions. I feel like Sabresalltheway really stepped out of bounds with this "warning" to pants, who, ironically, did exactly what the thread indicated he was supposed to do, he quoted bible verses he found interesting for the sake of discussion. |

I'm fine with the other thread, and I'm one of the most vocal about not being religious. Pants was warned because he presented himself in a way that made him look like a jerk, at least that's what I took from it. And I agree with SATW's assessment. |

Captain Pants wrote: My favourites: If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. (Levicticus 20:13) You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) and I realize thats old testament so I figured I'd include some new stuff too: Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)" Pants intention was antagonistic. First reply on a thread asking for the following: Rutledge222 wrote: As I told Schony earlier, Ive been debating about whether or not I should create this. It is my intention while starting this thread for it to be serious discussions, about Bible Verses and Interpretations of those verses. And other things. This is for the Christians to come together and talk about it, any non-Christians are welcome to comment and post as long as they are serious and wont hijack the thread. I already have Schony's discretion on this topic. DISCLAIMER Quote: "Your Mods request that this topic be treated with respect. If it is not the thread for you, then there are plenty of others to post in. Thanks. SG" You dont have to post here if you dont want to, but please be respectful. So basically I see this thread as a Online Bible Devotion or Bible study kinda thing. So I will start I guess with prolly one of the most famous verses in the Bible. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. I think that verse is pretty self explanatory, or at least I think it is. Pants was far from respecting the thread and got the warning. Feel free to keep "constructively criticizing" my actions though, I can clearly and obviously tell you meant no hostility Oh.. and BTW... I'm Atheist as well |

In all fairness, I think the point was to quote bible versus for the sake of interpretation, not for debate about the legitimacy of Christianity. I don't consider myself a Christian, but I am very spiritual. I don't think SabresAllTheWay has stepped out of bounds, because some threads should be moderated in certain ways. As long as he's clear about the reason WHY, I don't have a problem with it. |

Oh, and if you really have beef with something I did. PM's are probably more appropriate than calling others out in public. |

In all fairness, I asked on page 2 of the thread that the discussion be steered back towards civility. So, if you're going to question SATW's requests to do the same, it's only right to call me out as well. I see the situation as such. I feel that Rutledge222 was looking more along the lines of positive discussions about the meanings of some religious writings, and Pants wished to discuss things from a more critical viewpoint. Nothing wrong with either position. Religion is a difficult subject, especially in this medium. Some don't take kindly to criticism of their beliefs, even when those criticisms are not intended in a malicious. Let's just all try and keep that in mind when posting on such topics. |

Seems a thread for the exclusive purpose of arguing another thread's merits is not really a thread at all...just a grievance center. ETC's over/under for Lockdown: 4 minutes |

Yankee, I get what you're saying, but I think you intentionally "misinterpreted" a few things. While SATW's wording probably wasn't the best, the message was clear. It's like when I asked about my haircut and got attacked for it...if you don't have something to contribute to the conversation, just stay out. To contribute to Rut's thread, you must wish to discuss a Bible verse, and not just villify the "believers" or attempt, as Pants had (and would have succeeded I'm sure), to derail the thread completely away from its original intent. |
