I wish it would snow here in LA to thin out the herd a bit.

I wish Indiana were that way.

They've literally had -45 windchill here before and did not cancel classes, even though this is a walking campus. :(

grand rapids, right in the middle of the lake effect belt, doesnt do a damn thing about their roads. and their roads downtown are brick. i dont think i need to tell you what happens when brick is covered with ice and snow. i mean, hell, the brick becomes slick when it rains! kalamazoo, as soon as they heard about a storm, they got crews out on the road. before it would even start to snow. oh how i miss western michigan.

Only about 6,500 or so people attended the Canes beating the Blackhawks because, GET THIS, there were hazardous winter driving conditions! People SKIPPED A HOCKEY GAME because of HOCKEY WEATHER!

i remember a detroit pistons-milwaukee bucks game when i was a kid, on the local fox station. thats how long ago this was, it was on local tv. anyways, maybe 1994. because of bad weather, they thought there was maybe 600 people at the bradley center.

People were looking at me strange today because I'm walking around in shorts and a flannel shirt when I went out today. It was like 40 with a couple inches of snow. People have to lighten up and enjoy the weather.

City budgets don't allow much at all for snow and ice cleanup around NC. The weather swings up and down a lot too, so ice on the roads is a real problem. It's funny that the whole place shuts down with a little snow, but it's actually a good thing since most people wouldn't be able to handle the driving, and ice is a real issue.

If people weren't so scared, they would drive more, get in more car accidents, and cause more work for patrol officers.

I ice skated on the roads Phil, the roads were really that bad.

In NC we do not have the equipment to deal with that type of weather. I'm not lying, but if you did not have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you wouldn't make it very far.

The roads were an inch or two of solid ice. think about it for a second, these people don't know how to drive in this weather, and the roads were ICE, not snow or anything, ICE.

You could drive, but why would you, it was really dangerous to be out on the roads, unless you had a 4 wheel drive truck, but even still you would slide very easily.

The weather went from snow, to nothing to freezing rain to snow. I went out Ice Skating on Friday night and at ten the roads were covered in an inch or two or just powder snow. It had stopped snowing around midnight and the roads started to melt the snow off since it wasn't quite 32 degrees. That night it froze and I woke up to freezing rain and around 3-4 inches of snow that turned into ice. The roads were terrible when I went to a friends house, if you went anything over 30 you'd most likely have slide right off the roads.

NC does not have the plows NY or PA or any northern state has.

That is what the roads where, Solid ICE THAT I COULD SKATE ON!!!!!

When I went driving Saturday the only road that you could see clearly was the Interstates, because they have to keep them clear.

All side roads and backroads were terrible. I ended up getting stopped on a hill and couldn't regain traction because it was just ice and some idiot decided to stop and fuck everyone up.

When it snows more than an inch or two here, nobody really drives anywhere for several days. Most of the roads are not plowed or salted.

The last time my friend, who is accustomed to driving in the winter to say the least, went to the store after a nice snow fall, she slid right off the road.

If there isn't salt or sand on an icy road, it doesn't matter how great of a winter driver you are. You're going to wreck if you don't go about 30 and be very careful.

Driving down here after a snowfall is way different than in Buffalo or most northern states. They atually put sand on the roads up there.

No they didn't, they put that salt spray down and hope that works.

They don't do shit, especially this weekend.

I'm sure it depends what town you lived in. Where I'm at sand is never put on the roads. A brine solution is sprayed on the streets the night before an expected snow fall or freezing rain. If a lot of snow falls a few plows work on the major roads and highways. If freezing rain lays down ice the city shuts down until it melts, with a little help from the brine solution.
