He had a major stroke a couple weeks ago, and he just passed away today. I'm a big fan of the show. You could tell he was a great father and family man, as his two sons worked with him on board his crab fishing vessel, the Cornelia Marie. Sad day for his family. RIP. |

That's too bad. I hadn't heard. I also was a fan of the show. I didn't get to watch often, but enjoyed it when I did, being that I worked in the marine industry for a long, long time. Sig was the one I liked. In a gruff, "boatie" kinda way. But I respected all of the skippers on that show. It's pretty intense going out in seas 25' or more and trying to do a job, knowing you have other lives at stake. It's a huge responsibility. |

Well I can't say I'm surprised...he wasn't exactly a picture of health. Bummer. |

Yeah, that really sucks, but a few seasons ago he was in the hospital with a lung issue I believe...he was coughing up blood. RIP |

I was a big fan of the show as well, but mainlining Red Bull and chain smoking will do that to a guy sometimes. RIP Phil and my condolences to the family. It is a tough game to play out on the Bering Sea!! |

I liked that guy. He was cool. My mother loves that show. I can only stand it in small doses taken far apart, because every show is the same thing... |

Man that sucks, he was one of the best captains on that show. I loved the show also, but he was, as all the other skippers, chain smokers it seems. |

A lot of things run in my family, but if smoking were removed from the equation, none of them would except for some random autoimmune diseases. |
