I saw that.

I'm not happy with the public school system in my town right now either, in terms of their policies and their treatment of faculty members and alumni.

All the political "correctness" bullshit is the root of this. We are a very weak fucking society that can't see the forest through the trees. We see our tree, and want to protect it, its rights, its roots and leaves. We build a concrete foundation around our root system so no other tree's roots can get into "our" space. What we don't realize is that we can't grow out, either, and end up stunting our growth with a fucked up insufficient root system.

Then the trees fall and die, a fraction of the tree they could have become. Or, the tree sits there, smaller than the rest, crying out about unfair treatment.

Alot of this zero tolerance bull started when gangs were infiltrating schools. Gang members would communicate and recruit using doodling. Zero tolerance is because the schools do not want to discriminate.

Perhaps if she were executed by lethal injection it would send a message that would eliminate doodling altogether.

I always drew them on the back of my test papers when I would finish before the end of the period and the teacher collected our tests.

I loathe zero-tolerance policies, mainly for how they protect bullies that destroy kids' lives.

What idiocy.

Having heard first hand what constitutes a high school classroom these days I'm going to side with the teacher.

Buncha savages.

Ya, it is beautiful isn't it?

I also love how 'students' lose their rights to privacy, whilst losing their right to liberty. At least they're losing their liberty in their pursuit of happiness, right??

He got in trouble at school from something he did at home?

I would be like no matter what proof you have I was in my own fucking house and now, I'm getting an attorney to sue your asses for this shit.

And for the 12 year old, wow, arrested for doodling. Pretty sad day when this shit happens now.

Mind you he was kicked out of school in the 8th grade for doing so; my dad was caught doing the same thing when he was a kid, drawing something on his desk. The teacher brought him to the front of the class in an attempt to make an example out of him. He came down across dad's left hand with a heavy pointer stick and such force that he broke the stick. It hurt so much and his left hand was so swollen, dad did what he felt was required at the moment. He laid the teacher out with his right. When my grandparents we contacted about the events my grandfather informed the teacher that he was lucky he only hit him with his right and not his left. He may have lost some teeth. RIP, dad :D

I'm so glad I graduated from the school system when I did though. I see kids today and wonder how their parents let them get away with half the shit that goes on in modern times. I guess I'm old enough now to use the term, "When I was your age..."

I always thought it was dumb that at my high school, if you're involved in any sort of altercation, you're suspended 3 days.

Get sucker punched?
3 days.

Try to break up a fight?
3 days.

Shove your friend too hard and some teacher see it?
3 days.

Let's be fair - if there is an acceptable use policy for the computers, it has to be followed. If the machines are part of a well-designed network, they may very well sync files with the school's network. Perhaps part of the acceptable use policy is that the students aren't allowed to use webcams, or that they can't install instant messaging programs.

The student takes a picture with the IM program. An IT tech gets notification when the machine is back in the school that the machine has unauthorized software during a routine audit. In due diligence, he checks the machine, and sees something questionable. He then takes it to the school's staff (vice principal).

I don't think the school's policies are fucked up, if the case I presented is remotely close to what happened to the student. I believe the issue is how the vice principal handled it; student's can't be punished for what they do at home. There are supreme court cases that uphold this. A student can create a "I hate teacher so-and-so Facebook group" all day long, and are well within their own rights to do so. They can create MySpace profiles poking fun at certain individuals. While this does oppose good order and discipline, when outside the school, the faculty is powerless. Fucked up? Sometimes. Unavoidable? Yes.

Faculty is handcuffed by political correctness and individual rights.
