that falls pretty far out of the realm of possibility.... When we have technology that can do that, actually carrying around a phone would probably be pretty lame. |

oh, i know. what i could see is a clear phone, with a metal casing around the parameter that projects onto the clear centre. |

Transparent displays aren't as far off as you think. There are patents already filed for them. Just waiting for the hardware costs to decrease, as with all electronic devices shown before their time. I remember when a portable DVD player at Sharper Image was 1300 bucks! Now you can get them for about $100 if you look in the right place. ironyisadeadscene wrote: oh, i know. what i could see is a clear phone, with a metal casing around the parameter that projects onto the clear centre. Bingo. Samsung did a working prototype for CES this year: http://www.wired.com/video/ces-2010-han ... 0826805001 |

It'll be very cool for some applications, but at times I could see it being inconvenient, unless you could change the opacity for watching videos and what not. I would hate to try to watch a video and be looking through it. EDIT: And just so you know, there's been a few signs that Apple will be the first to bring this to the consumer market in a large scale. |

It would probably come with some fancy attachment, you know, like a piece of cardboard to put behind it. |

It'd all have to be incorporated into the frame. Eventually, mobile hardware components will be small enough to do that. |

This will eventually be possible too. Processors and devices are continuously being made to consume less power. Hell, Apple's new Macbook Pro's consume less energy than a 65 watt light bulb now! |

All good points, but it goes back to what I originally said...once this type of thing is possible, do you think people will actually be carrying around cell phones? I know I won't. ironyisadeadscene wrote: my sister just got a new macbook. she doesnt understand why i cant sync up to video chat with her "ichat" probably because thats an apple product, and i got a brand new HP. You should tell her that Macs suck It's all personal preference, really. People who do in depth computer shit or gaming love Windows because of its compatibility and open platform. I value that my mac is ridiculously stable (5 years old now, and crashes less than twice a year!), syncs perfectly with my iPhone, browses the internet ridiculously fast, and comes with a whole suite of creative applications like garage band, iMovie, iPhoto, and others. If you don't know the operating system, I can see how it could be confusing. But I've found that macs are much easier to learn than windows. |
