I'm gonna need to keep myself quiet in this thread, or I'll make some enemies.

Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.

then this guy...

If anyone's interested... my senior highschool thesis measured IQ vs. Political stance and Religion. In the end I came ot hte conclusion that it is those with a more sceptical mind (typically liberals and atheists) that have the higher IQ.

that whole correlation =/ causation thing comes into play

fun facts; dumbest state (Mississippi) was 3rd in the most religious. Whereas states like vermont, Massachusetts, NY etc showed the exact opposite.

for those with a base understanding of stats... a -.47 r^2 result when comparing the pew poll of countries sampled on whether "religion plays a role in their life" and their IQ as given by that CIA world factbook website. The USA was an incredibly obvious outlier, its one of the few countries with an average iq >80 and a religious whatever >30.

Japan has the highest IQ and it reported only 11%

Why is that on CNN? The correlation's been known for a while. I suppose, though, that it's better than reporting people's Twitter updates or oftentimes false celebrity "news."

If gullibility equals conservatism than I guess that makes me a flaming liberal, because I am highly skeptical of this study. Gullible people tend to be easily duped into believing junk science that supports their pre-existing political beliefs.

Apparently Obama didn't go check his mail today, so they had to find some 5 minutes of filler...

Honestly, I highly doubt that when surveyed on a whole that either party has higher intelligence...what I'd like to see is a study of integrity from both parties...now that would be interesting.

And male homosexuality.

Seems to me like someone was trying to prove a point.

How large of a sample was this group? I was never asked to take an IQ test. Any other males here participate?

I have taken one, I have no idea if it went into this study at all, since it didn't explain the sample size very well.

Before you took it, did it ask you your political party, sexuality, and religious beliefs?

I don't think so, I don't really remember, it was a while ago.

This is a very skewed statistic.

Less educated, and for the most part, less intelligent people are more heavily populated in certain geographic areas. It happens that these areas/regions/States are less comtemporary than are many areas of the NE. Naturally they have somewhat older school values, so they would tend to be conservatives, and religious.

Throw that part of the population out, and measure the rest. I seriously doubt that of the remaining segment, IQ measures higher in Liberals or Atheists.

A bit silly, really.

Indeed...and the title of this thread is even more inaccurate.
If there is a correlation between liberalism and IQ, certainly the argument would be IQ leads to liberalism, not the other way around.

I still think it's bunk for the reasons you stated Howie and many others.
