When officials announced this week that Venables _ now 27 and free on parole since 2001 _ is back behind bars for an undisclosed breach of his release conditions, the debate erupted again. Are Venables and co-accused Robert Thompson evil child-killers who should never have been released, or damaged children who deserve a chance at rehabilitation? |

Wow...I suppose I'd need to know in what way he violated parole. There are lots of fairly innocent ways one can violate parole, like drinking a beer or talking to the wrong person. |

I remember this case. I couldn't believe it when I heard about it. Without knowing the full psychological backgrounds of the kids who committed this at the age of 10 and only going on what we have been allowed to know, I still think the whole, "Blame it on video games and MTV" theory is a crock of horseshit. Yes, in most cases (not all) kids will repeat what they see and hear. (Which explains why I had the mouth of a sailor when I was eight years old. Thanks dad!) In a lot of instances though, some kids are just messed up. Something isn't firing behind their eyes and between their ears or there was some faulty wiring at birth. For all we know, as children, maybe they were not exposed to what is right and what is wrong? Speaking for myself, I was forced to learn right from wrong at a very young age. Death was all around me as it seemed family members were dropping like flies. At 10 years old, I knew what you see on TV most times, read about in Fangoria or encountered in video games was all BS. Death was very real. I think it would be interesting to review their evaluation from when they committed this crime, and conduct another one today. See if the same tendencies are there or if something dark enough from their childhood has come back and reared its ugly head in a more violent way. What can I say, I love researching this shit and what makes our form of mammals tick. As unfortunate as this situation is of course. |

You can't blame this on video games since it happened in 1993 anyways or MTV. People need t stop blaming their own problems on something else really. You blame something you did on music or a video game, you don't deserve to see the light of day again. But he was 10 at the time, I have no idea what even happened or how the child was murdered, but at 10 you have no idea if they thought it was just child's play or not really. |

I was saying that it's hard to blame video games at that early on because most where not as violent as they are today and such. Most where also not in a first person model and you couldn't make them 3-D like they are today then. MTV I know existed, but blaming a music channel? That is what I meant, blame video games that don't even look real on stuff? |

in 1990, 2 families sued Judas Priest because they said their music was the cause of their sons committing suicide http://www.nytimes.com/1990/07/17/arts/ ... gewanted=1 Mortal Kombat was out in 1992...that had plenty of spine ripping, blood spattering violence...so it wasn't realistic, but it sure was violent. |

i looked it up, and some of the saddest images were of this kid leading the toddler by the hand caught on a security camera. when passerbys questioned why he was screaming, the older kid told people it was his brother. i also dont think the toddler was dead, just severely injured, when he was hit by the train on the tracks he was abandoned on. could be wrong. |

I know, it's gut wrenching. I keep imagining how the poor baby must have been so terrified being lead away to a strange place by those boys and then they tortured him. Brings me to tears just thinking about it...ugh. I just hope now he is somewhere where he is at peace and surrounded by nothing but happiness. |
