Can we develop some sort of standard for when the GDT is locked? Now I know the moderators can't be expected to be on top of such things 24/7, but when I go to a game, I usually like to take a peek in and see what's going on when I get home, which is usually around midnight, but I usually find the thread locked. :(

Hey CV. We have been locking them as soon as the thread clears out.

That's a bummer. I wasn't calling out any mod in particular, even though you've been locking them lately. I think it was the Feb 13th sharks game I got back and wanted to post and couldn't and was like...oh... :( haha

Yeah, pretty much when the thread kinda dies off, or the next day from time to time. :)

Can it be like 12 hours after the game is over to lock it?

i can see cv's opinion on that....i voted 24 hours....maybe it could just be open till the next gdt appears, that way if he or someone else goes on a bender for a day or two after the game, they would still be able to post in it when they find their way home

If we're doing a short lock, we should make a GBU (good, bad, ugly) thread after the game

Hmm.. What about changing their name to "Game Threads" instead of "Game Day Threads" and not locking them? That way all threads about a specific game can be merged into one area. Since we have the CoC, hopefully there can be less chaos after a bad game. That way the worst that can happen is.. well.. we lock the thread.

Thoughts?

That sounds like a good idea.

Agreed. Usually the GDT banter stays civil after the game, and with virtually no one joining the game day chats anymore, its nice to have a spot to talk about it.

Lock it a couple hours after the game, if it isn't out of hand.

There's no option for "immediately after we lose" :/

 I'd assume that people would just ignore it after we lost, but idk if that's the case.

I would think the most sensible time would be when the next game starts. But I don't read those threads, so I don't care either way.

Midnight after the game concludes, or 2.5 hours after the conclusion of a Pacific time zone game.

24 hours is currently leading. I don't have much of an opinion really. I only lock them at all because, well, that's whats always been done. :)

My take on "whats always been done":

Quote:
1. Start with a cage containing five apes. In the cage, hang a banana on a string and put stairs under it. Before long, an ape will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana.

2. As soon as the ape touches the stairs, spray all the apes with cold water. After a while, another ape makes an attempt with the same result - all the apes are sprayed with cold water.

3. Turn off the cold water. If, later, another ape tries to climb the stairs, the other apes will try to prevent it even though no water sprays at them.

4. Now, remove one ape from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new ape sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his horror, all of the apes attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.

5. Next, remove another of the original five apes and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm.

6. Again, replace a third original ape with a new one. The new one makes it to the stairs and is attacked as well. Two of the four apes that beat him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in the beating of the newest ape.

7. After replacing the fourth and fifth original apes, all the apes which have been sprayed with cold water have been replaced.

Nevertheless, no ape ever again approaches the stairs. Why not?

BECAUSE that's the way it's always been done around here.
