For some reason the video on my laptop is acting up. I was watching DVDs without a problem and now, all of a sudden, the video lags. It's not just DVDs, it does it with videos and tv shows from itunes. Is there a way to fix it?

I have had this issue before. I think that if you're running a lot of programs, or even if a lot of processes are running, it will lag either video or audio.

Restart the computer, sometimes if your computer has been on for a few days it starts to lag out.

Yes, also make sure you aren't running a shitload of programs in the background.

Yep - reboot first. Then check what you're running in the background - do a Control+Alt+Delete and see what your CPU usage is coming in as.

If you're running a ton of background programs (like the ones that came preinstalled), your computer is going to be much slower than it should be. Go to Run>msconfig, then to startup, and decheck anything that's not essential (you probably want to keep anything under C:\Windows, but anything else can be safely dechecked).

For the specific issue, check that you haven't changed any graphics settings, make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled, etc. If it's a delay between video and audio, a changed setting may cause them to be out of sync.

Is it specific to one program? You mentioned iTunes videos, are you using that (or QuickTime) to watch DVD's as well?

I restarted the computer and it still lagged. for dvd's I use a program that came on the computer - Acer Arcade Deluxe. The lagging started the other day, I was watching Schindlers List (I specify only because it's a long movie) and it was fine for most of the movie, the audio kept going but the video lagged and skipped close to the end.

On iTunes, I have a season pass for a tv show, that's what I was watching last night. The show plays right in iTunes. I made sure to close out programs from the right side tool bar by the clock. I even changed the power settings to run higher performance and shorter battery life thinking that would help.

Sounds like it might be an audio codec issue? But I'm not really an expert on that stuff. If you hit ctrl-alt-del and open the task manager, you can see all the shit that's running even though you might not have a program open, though closing processes is not necessarily a good idea.

Check the DVD an make sure it is clean, because that could just be a problem with the DVD.

Unless it is more than just one DVD, if it is all, make sure you install the up to date codecs.

closing processes isn't good unless you know what shit you're closing, most likely if is has anything with your brand of computer, .32 .dll and shit don't touch it.
