I've had an ADT security system for about 4 years now and I decided to switch to one by Pinnacle. When they were installing the new gear they opened the phone connection box outside and found that the ADT system hasn't been connected to the phone line. No one has been in that box for over 3 years so basically if anyone would have broke in it would have made noise and that's it. I of course want my fucking money back since I have been paying them for doing nothing. Any advice? |

My advice is to scrap the security blanket...I mean "system", and keep a big dog and a shotgun. The delay on communication from system to call center to police dispatch to police officer at your door makes it almost useless. |

Get some cameras, so at least you have footage and can "get your shit back". There are some pretty neat systems available now that can use your home network and you can view your cameras from anywhere that has an internet connection (yep, even your smartphone). The software I know of that works is subscription based, but with some networking know-how, you don't need those systems (I can help you through it if ya want). Anyways, if you wanna check the software out, it's 30 days free at Rogo. |

While I agree with SF1980 about the effectiveness of such systems, it's not right that you've been paying them for monitoring and not getting it. EDIT: Calling your local news investigative reporters can be a good idea sometimes too. |

If you were out here, Pat, we'd be telling you to get 4 On Your Side and Mylous Hairston (or is it Rich Newberg...can never remember) on that shit. They're all about the investigative reporters and community action. |

My dog is a big wimp (Siberian huskies will just watch you break in and take shit) and my gun is locked up and only used for camping. The reason I have a system is for when we're not here or on vacation, and to warn us if anyone gets in the house or garage. I'm not looking to improve my system of anything, I mean heck I have a complete infrared camera system from my father in-law that I could put up if I wanted to. I just can't beleive that they didn't call me to let me know or do any tests periodically to see if the system is working properly. I'll be on the phone in a bit to see what bull they throw at me. |

The flaw I have always seen with security systems like that: it's very easy to disconnect them from the phone line before breaking in. They have wireless transmitters now that work over the cell towers if the phone line is disconnected. Of course, they are probably pricey. |

It's all digital and locked ******* house in the ******* now. Edited because Sabres fans are shifty |

Mental note: when breaking into pat's house, break into the crawl space first. Check. |

Well with the new digital one it will go off if it's tampered with. There isn't anything to cut besides the power and if you do it starts calling the cops. |

Before I call ADT I should re-watch the last Boston-Sabres game to get worked up and pissed. |

The security system in our datacenter connects to a wireless link on the building provided by the alarm company, and also has dual 3G WWAN cards for backup in case that wireless becomes unavailable. Yes, it's expensive. |
