I don't understand why people get worked up over having some good looking girls come and do routines during intermission and scrape snow off the ice during breaks. Big fucking deal. We get ice girls and we're not a hockey city? What the fuck is that shit? As long as they're not distracting people during actual play, it shouldn't be a problem. Ice Girls are really great for promotions and promoting team spirit. The Buffalo Jills and Bandettes do a lot of work around the community, using their name to promote good causes. It also doesn't hurt that they're nice to look at it.

I'm indifferent towards having them, but to say we don't need them or that we would scream we're not a hockey city is making leaps.

EDIT: there's a reason football has cheerleaders...because the fans do a whole lot of sitting around waiting for another play...that's not the case in Hockey.

So what, the jumbotron plays people falling and the kisscam during intermission, this isn't any different.

Well, I don't think it's making leaps to say that we don't need them. The Sabres don't need promotion via that or any other avenue, really; they've been everywhere all over WNY since 05-06. If the fanbase starts to wane again, then all right, it would be a leap to say that some extra promotion is needed, but unless/until that happens, I don't see a need for it. Saying that they're needed at this point in time is a much bigger stretch IMO. As far as the connotation of not being a hockey city goes, well, it's there, and it's leaguewide, stupid and baseless or not, though don't the Flames have Ice Girls? Maybe in the future some other hockey cities or even more Canadian teams will add them, but until then, I wouldn't want Buffalo to be the city criticized for it... again, yeah, it's sort of a stupid assumption that ice girls = not a hockey city in that it's based on nothing more than tradition and what currently is, but because I wouldn't be able to defend the decision to add them via a need for more promotion or a need to get more people to games, I personally wouldn't want them at the present time. I wouldn't really care if they existed; I just wouldn't enter any discussions where I'd have to defend their presence because I wouldn't be able to. For that reason, I'd rather they not be a part of the Sabres organization.

Something about it just doesn't feel right for hockey. It's a traditional part of football and some other sports. But for hockey, it just seems corny and out of place.

I don't think the Sabres NEED ice girls, but I don't think I'd rally against the team if they did. They better get honest-to-goodness hotties, though, because the quality of the Jills and Bandettes is average at best.
