Hiiiiiii! So I have been sitting here kinda miserable because I feel kinda shitty and everything is always one problem after another... but that's another story. Anyway.... So in my misery, I've been thinking how it would be nice to get away for a night or two with the boy. The Finger Lakes was my first thought, but I don't really know too much about the area, besides that it is beautiful. My sister got married in Geneva last year so I'm at least a little familiar. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about anything there. Places to stay, restaurants, activities, etc. I was thinking it would be best to stay over on a Saturday night and I know we have to hurry because summertime is peak season. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, Pat's right. It is pretty big. I know there are quite a few wineries in the region and Canandaigua Lake is beautiful.

I understand that it's huge, but I'm primarily looking for past experiences as to where people have maybe stayed or been. My bf stays on Skaneateles lake a lot over the summer with his family, so I've heard some nice things about there. I've been to Geneva and know it's nice there. I just want to know some really nice places to stay or areas that some of you are familiar with. I've been looking at stuff on Trip Advisor and thought some personal opinions from you guys may help.

I go there quite often, you pretty much can't go wrong in the whole region. When we go, it's usually with a large group and we rent a house...not exactly practical for two people. There are a number of houses on the lakes that are bed and breakfasts, many of those are quite nice. Might be an option. There's also a number of hotels on or near the water in most of the cities or villages. In Geneva there is a Hampton Inn right on the water. There's also the Bellhurst Castle, a smaller, pricier hotel and winery, about a mile down the lake. It's pretty nice. Villages like Hammondsport and Watkins Glen are also very nice (although don't go to Watkins on a race weekend). Canandaigua is a nice lake and the city itself is nice...staying in the city would feel too big and commercial for me though. There's a ton to do in the region, but it's quite large and can be a long drive from one place to another. If you're staying on Cayuga or Skaneatlas or the east side of Seneca, Ithaca is a nice place to visit...but if you're staying on Canadaigua or Keuka, it's a bit far. Watkins Glen State Park is a must visit if you've never been there before. But really all depends on where you stay.

My sister actually got married in the Belhurst Castle and while we were there, my family and I stayed at the Hampton Inn, so funny that you bring those two places up. Looking for something more on the romantic side (that sounds really cheesy), but we were thinking of staying at his house in Syracuse Friday night, then going to wherever Saturday morning and hanging out for the day, go to a really nice restaurant for dinner, and then have an evening in. Most places seem to have check out at 11, so we could either hang out for the day or go back to his place in Syracuse before I drive home to Buffalo for one more week of work before school starts.

Watkins Glen State Park: Walk down the gorge and make sure it's not on a race weekend. There is a cool little go-kart place in town as well that I've always loved. I'm very jealous of you since I love that whole area, as i've been camping many places around there.

I was thinking about it a lot yesterday and looking up stuff about nice places to stay and I can just tell how beautiful everything is. I didn't know if it would be something he would want to do, but he immediately said yes and we could look into it. Unfortunately, we'd be going during peak season and peak wedding season, so we would need to book something quick. There are not too many places out there that will let you book for one night on the weekend. I wish I had thought of this sooner.

Hammondsport could be a good option. It's quaint, if a little touristy. Of course, I might be looking at this from more of a wine-tasting perspective, and I'm not sure if that jives with your plan, age-wise. If it does, the best vineyard in NY, IMO, is near there, Dr. Constantine Frank.

My brother lives on Honeoye Lake. It's beautiful there and I know there's lots of cabins that go for rent in the summer. As far as stuff to do in that area, I'm not sure. Whenever I'm there it's to visit them and we do family stuff.

Honeoye is too small for me...then again I usually am thinking from a boating standpoint.
