... and the internet shitbags create a whinefest.

I don't think this change will help much, but I do like that they're slapping all the folks that spew garbage under the anonymous safety blanket right across the face. TBN's story comments are generally useless flame wars, with a smattering of racism and sexism tossed in for good measure. Rarely are comments even relevant to the story.

I wouldn't mind if they turned comments off personally. I don't care what Joe from Akron things about something that may have happened in my neighborhood. I just enjoy that fact that all these dumbasses now have to put their real name on their crap speech, and can't hide behind their keyboards anymore.

Some of the people that are outraged are hilarious. 1984 this! Big brother that! It's like they rounded up 40 ETC's to comment and told him it was the politics thread.

So they want people to act like adults and take responsibility for the things that come off their keyboards?

THE HORROR!

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic.

If you're man (or woman) enough to put a racist post up on the internet, you should be man (or woman) to put your name on it. That's one of the downsides of the interwebs; people can be anonymous and be complete assholes because of it.

I like how people are crying about hackers and all that nonsense. It's the same information you give when you write an editorial. It's not like the fact that it's on the internet makes it any more dangerous.

Hell, most people could probably figure out where those commenters live anyways. It's really not that hard. So much information is publicly available through tax records, and still more is available if you want to cough up some money. If you know how to access any GIS data you have Name, Address, purchase year, purchase cost, mailing address, previous owner and a whole bunch of other shit I don't remember.

People just keep proving why this is a good idea.

Front page story about a man who did 7 years on a rape charge, but finally was exonerated because DNS testing if the rape kit proved it wasn't him.

Second comment on the story:

Quote:
The woman positively identified him, and wrongly sent him to prison for all these years? Thats sickening. He should be able to now have free sex with her whenever he wants for the rest of his life. SHE OWES HIM THAT FOR WHAT SHE HAS DONE TO DESTROY THE LIFE OF AN INNOCENT MAN.

THESE are the folks that don't want to have to put their name on their drivel.

I'll admit though, I sort of smirked at the idea.

Not the way the military works man; he was given the choice: resign, or I'm firing you. That was pretty much it.

Meh, it's just semantics.

Presidents don't stand by when their subordinate generals talk shit about them. They get removed. It's nothing new.

People who bitch about this are more than likely the same folks that still want to see the birth certificate.

I'll bitch about it because it's another instance of Obama having tissue-paper thin skin.

funny you mention this. at the old boards, ferret pulled up some of 1980s comments he posted in the buffalo news, and is blasting the hell out of em.

He's upwards of 40. He's not changing his ways short of a near-death experience.

Ferret is ferret. He's got some decent opinions on hockey topics, but they tend to get buried with all his other antics.

The only reason he (and HockeyTruth / OmegaMan / et all) are even back at the old boards is because they got banned from HF Boards. They have the run of the place now, yet still find the need to trash people who left by any means possible.

Everyone wave to them, since they still come here to find comments that were made so they can complain about them over there.

Bump...

Ferret, the guy who knows everything. Clearly he can't be wrong. Case and point, copied from the old boards:

Was visiting the old forums (bad idea). Was getting really annoyed by ferret so jumped back a few years.

3/1/08:
Quote:
The Sabres are the 3rd youngest team in the league. You have to give a few of the guys a chance. I think Vanek(40-50 goals) and Stafford(30 goals) will be really good. Pominville keeps getting better every year. I do agree. We need to draft a forward that is a top talent. I would trade for another first round pick in next years draft. That would give us 3. I would love to trade for a top 3 pick.

Yep, for someone who hates on Darcy so much, he doesn't sound a thing like him.

ferret knows his stuff sometimes. he really does. its his inability to let go of things. he says the same things over and over and over again about how wrong other people were. its just like... i dont care if brad may was a shitty first round pick, it doesnt need to come up in every damn thread.

edit: for the record, i find him absolutely right about paul gaustad. for 2.5 million, hes basically a waste.
