During the past 20 years there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States. In 2009, only Colorado and the District of Columbia had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%. Thirty-three states had a prevalence equal to or greater than 25%; nine of these states (Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and West Virginia) had a prevalence of obesity equal to or greater than 30%.

Wow. Check out the map at the link to see how dramatically it has changed over 20 years, plus some startling figures about the rise of diabetes.

Well, the bar they set for "obese" is pretty low, but regardless...

USA!
USA!
USA!

EDIT:
Hey...white people in California aren't that bad!

White non-Hispanic

I must say this is pretty accurate...the most likely obese demographic I see is Hispanic...unfortunately mostly children.

That's a 5-15% jump by race...pass the churizo please...and a churro to scoop my ice cream.

The standard for obese is retarded. I could be a 200 pound guy and be considered obese yet if I wasn't actually fat I am not obese, just muscular.

Yay for fatness!

BMI is pretty stupid, though. By default, men would have higher BMIs than women, for example. Still... I did not see one obese Russian person the entire three weeks I was in Russia in May. There were a few obese people here and there, but they were North American tourists every time.

I am a healthy 6 foot 1 145 and I think of myself as being small, not in the healthy BMI place.

If I was 180 which I'd like to be I would be considered healthy, but if I went to 190 I would be overweight even if all I want to to do is be a good size and strength.

Also 228 is obese for 6'1 and you can be 221 and not be obese, just huge in muscle.

Before they took all the pop and crap out of the vending machines at my school, students would come in, eat spicy cheetoos and dr. pepper for breakfast. Then they'd eat fries or pizza for lunch. One of the kids told me the only "healthy" food they had was salad (and it was always half frozen...from the other day) and spoiled tasting yogert.

People bitch and whine about how our kids are too fat, but then they feed them crap at lunch to cut costs.

The only reason I don't work out is I'm lazy.

I did gain ten pounds by playing hockey and skating though :D
