Post subject:  Pre-Rec Bull class....thought I'd share
So the school I'm going to requires you to take this Computer Lit class and I've put it off and put it off. Now I know why! The school wrote the book which costs 160 and change so they make a mint off of that. Then I get to class and it is being taught by this 60 year old woman who knows NOTHING about computers. The whole point of the class is to give students the base level of knowledge to use various programs and so far she has dragged on about BINARY fucking code for three classes.....BINARY CODE!!! WTF? She has no lesson plan, constantly has to have a younger student help her do the most basic shit on her computer and has a voice that is a combination of slow jazz and a hot car. She went on a ten minute rant about how you need to clearly label your lap top bag so it doesn't get mixed up with someone else's......and this helps me how? It is like listening to my grandma read from Computers for Dummies. I feel like I'm being hosed by having to pay for this shit.

Oh....we have a few older sudents (like 50's) that are really into the shit she's saying. They'll start talking about the most random basic shit...like the miracle that is the optical mouse.....for ever. They all got into this senior citizen discussion about "What ever happened to writing REAL letters?" for half the fucking class. And I pay for this. Groan.

I took a similar class, CIS119. Biggest damn joke of a class ever. I was basically an intro to computers class that they had for all the business students, but they merged it with the Computer Science major into class. So, you had half a room of people who had no clue how to turn a computer on, and half a room of people that were building their own machines when they were 13. I was in that second group. We spent more time working on our assembly projects than listening to this old bag.

At the time I took this class, I was also working in the computer center at the school, so I knew all the high level managers and such. One day, the guy who ran the A/V department for the school came into class as a guest speaker to tear apart a PC and talk about the internal components and what they did. (IE, this is a hard drive, this is where you store data. This is RAM....etc....) I felt so bad for him. It was like having a neurosurgeon giving a class on how to properly put Neosporin on a scraped knee and cover it with a Barney the dinosaur bandage.

I'm hoping I can challenge a lot of these types of classes when I go back to start on my BS.

I just talked to the Acediemic Office and they said I have to speak with the instructor about testiing out of it. We shall see.

Not that I'm a super techie building my own computers or anything but this class is simply about how to use power point, office etc. Shit I have been doing for half my life. She had a ten minute discussion about control alt delete....seriously.

When I transferred to Parkside (wisconsin) they actually had a class like that which i was exempt from since i had an associates degree.

Update.

I just took a test on Windows Vista and .....ugh. It's funny how these egg heads have worded the definitions of some of the things we all don't think twice about like a task bar, start menu, recycling box and so on. Take for instance the definition for your desktop: "The basic screen from which Windows and applications are run." When that definition came up in question three with four multiple choice answers, I'll admit I had to actually look it up since when the fuck have I EVER thought of the desktop as THAT?! It is so irritating to have to learn the specific terms for every single part of Windows since learning them does nothing to improve my use of a computer. It just fucking sucks. All I do is go "Oh....so that's what that thingie is called. Whoopidee doo. Now let me get back to surfing porn" :lol:

So...more about this class:

Teacher posted a test online then decided (after I took it) to change the due date which aparently wiped out my score. When I asked what my grade was (two weeks after I took it) she asked me to send her a message. I did and attatched a screen shot of my student submission folder showing that I took it etc. She writes back: "Hope this doesn't become an issue again." Fucking bitch tried to imply that I may have not taken it and that I was scamming her.

Secondly...just took a test on "The Internet", two chapters, ten questions. Half way through the test (when I got to the five questions on chapter five) it turns out that the last bit was all about previous chapters covering operating Windows Vista and XP. The fucking moron didn't even proof her FUCKING OWN TEST!!!

I've found in the online classes that I've taken that the teachers don't seem to have a good handle on the software used for assignments and tests. I learned early on to screenshot the submission confirmation page and email it directly to the professor as soon as I turned something in, no matter what it was. More times than I could count they tried to say I didn't turn something in, only to 'find' it later after I could provide proof that it was done.

Have a question for you all. I got this question wrong and personally think it's not only written shitty but also wrong:

Now the definitions I found in the book and online state that endnotes only are at the END of a document therfore it has to be a footnote. What the fuck?
