American's bright new idea is to charge coach passengers extra for a seat in the first few rows of the cabin, the idea being that these are desirable because their occupants can be assured of getting overhead bin space and get off the plane faster after landing.

REALLY, SERIOUSLY!!!!! Alot of these major corporations are so out of touch with reality!!!! Hey assholes, the reason why you're not making as much money is because there is a fucking recession!!!! That mean those of us that are not fortunate enough to make millions don't have money to pay these fucking fees!

I will never step foot on an airplane again.

ha, yeah...i'm actually not surprised in the least that they're trying to wring every last dollar out of us, they've been doing it for the last few years at least.

But are you serious about not flying anywhere? Cuz driving cross country sucks, i've done it enough times to declare that in most instances, it sucks, especially if you're only doing it to get somewhere.

I just drove from Colorado Springs to NY and back because the cost of tickets for my two kids and myself was a fucking raping.

Doing what they gotta do to stay afloat, I guess. Being an airline isn't fun right now.

I'll only fly when absolutely necessary. Hate it, which is amusing because I used to love it. I still love the fact that you're hurtling through the sky at very high speeds... the idea of it... but now the reality bothers me even though it is entirely irrational.

American Airlines now charges for pillows, as I learned a couple weeks ago. $8 for a pillow and blanket, and you get $10 off at Bed Bath & Beyond. This in addition to charging $25 for each checked bag on all domestic flights. Plus charges for headphones, and their "snack packs", like $8 for some cheese and crackers. Fucking ridiculous. I took 6 American/American Eagle flights and 1 Air France flight in the last two weeks, and I got more on the one hour and a half Air France flight (free meal, good service, free beer) than in all 6 American flights combined.

just saying, in the event of a plane crash, the back seats offer the best chance at survival.

This is why I fly on Southwest. They aren't too expensive, you get to check in 2 free bags (and then you get an additional carry on item, and a smaller item to bring on the plane), they have great service. I haven't been on a flight where the flight attendants haven't been very nice and helpful. You get a drink and some peanuts (at least on short flights... I don't know how it works on longer ones). And they have some other nice perks, especially if you're a frequent flier. Given that I have to fly home and back at least 5 times a year, if not more, it's nice having an airline that doesn't suck.

Southwest is top notch. I think that that is my favorite airline.

I'm sure it sucks, that's why I will basically stay on the east of the Mississippi. In the last few years I have only flown southwest and at this point, they are the only ones who will see a penny of my business....

Same here, it's the only company I fly with. I haven't flown in about a year and a half now, do they still have good prices or did they have to raise them to accommodate the freebies?

I flew with them a few weeks ago from Buffalo to Maryland and back. The tickets were just over $100 round trip.

The worst airline IME is US Airways. HATE.

Sweet, because I'm coming to Buffalo for Christmas break and I might be flying. If I can get a ticket from them before it gets to high that would be pretty sweet.

They've been doing it since they started giving everyone credit cards. The strong cover the weak with higher interest rates, but their business still expands. Doesn't matter anyways, because in a "market economy" they will price things according to your disposable income, and you will be left with nothing. Trust me, they have this thing perfected.

ATL is right, the airlines rarely do well, and are very prone to bankruptcies. They aren't the ones raping your wallet, it's NYSEG(while their profits are small, their profits are guaranteed), Time-Warner, Sprint(iow your carrier), Capital One, your government(can't forget them), whoever holds your mortgage, pharmaceuticals, etc. that are raping your wallets.

Just keep an eye on prices. They often have random times where they have super good deals, like the one ATL posted above. If you get it at the right time, you can find flights for 49 bucks one way. It's nifty.

I agree with a lot of you guys, Southwest is the best airline to take. (I also like Jetblue, but it is a bit pricey). I have flown Airtran in an effort to save money, but they charge $15 for checked luggage and the seats are always dirty!
