http://www.starwars.com/movies/saga/ann ... index.html Quote: Lucasfilm Ltd. announced today that the live-action Star Wars Saga will be converted to 3D! There are few movies that lend themselves more perfectly to 3D; from the Death Star trench run to the Tatooine Podrace, the Star Wars Saga has always delivered an entertainment experience that is completely immersive. Presented by Twentieth Century Fox and Lucasfilm Ltd., the cutting edge conversion will take that immersion to the next thrilling level, with Industrial Light & Magic supervising the project. Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace is expected to be released theatrically in 2012. A release date has not yet been determined. "Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right," said John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic. "It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience." To see an exclusive video with Knoll discussing his role in 3D stereo conversion, click on the image below to be taken to our video player. This could either be really awesome or suck shit horribly. Hopefully it's awesome. It may actually make Episodes I and II not suck so bad (minus the fact Jar Jar will still be in them). I'll be really anticipating the Original Trilogy when they come out though. |

I never thought the three original movies were all that good, nor the three new movies all that bad. A lot of the same flaws exist in both, but by the time 1999 rolled around, people had romanticized George Lucas and Stars Wars so much that their expectations were very unrealistic. The dialogue was never very good, and was at times contradictory and annoying (Han using both "lightspeed" and "hyperspace" to mean the same thing in one scene in Empire. Maybe I just don't know the fake science well enough though). People knock Hayden Christensen, but a lot of the writing he had to work with was just downright terrible. I think part of the issue was that the actors in the original films were a bit older and thus more comfortable telling Lucas that his writing sucked (Ford is famous for this). The best thing to come out of Star Wars was that fan written conspiracy theory that tied together all of Lucas's nonsense into something that made sense. Awesome. |

Yeah, the acting isn't the greatest and the terminology is flawed, but Lucas created a masterpiece for the time with it. He embodied myths as well as modern issues into his films when he created the original 3. Like you said, people romanticized Lucas, but not for the films per sea, but more the idea they brought that good triumphs over evil. Also the fact that he created a great story overall. An upbeat first film, a second one that leaves you in despair, then a third that ultimately wins your heart when good finally does triumph over evil. |

The new 3 were just for the money so they can fuck off. |

I can see how the original trilogy was endearing, and anyone who can create a new world deserves a lot of credit. That's personally what I find appealing (having read a few Star Wars Novels), the world itself. |

Of course it's the prequels. lol. The less George Lucas had to do with the Star Wars movies, the better they were. All credit for how good the original trilogy is ought to go squarely to Marcia Lucas. George did squat that was good. Even what he originally wanted the characters to be is ridiculous. |

i would like to start off by saying that i hate hayden christneson and while i will admit that lucas writes shit-tastic dialogue the other actors could at least pull it off with some sort of believability to it (for the most part). episode 1 by itself isnt a bad movie and seeing it in 3d might be entertaining. however, when they continue with 2, and 3 i might have to skip those... |

Watch RedLetterMedia's reviews of the prequels (not sure if Revenge of the Sith is up yet because I haven't looked in a while) on YouTube, and you will understand. |

George Lucas continues his relentless campaign to destroy the franchise. What an asshole. |

How is him making it in 3D destroying the franchise? |

You're right about 1 and 2 sucking, but oh my god, he's such an asshole for making the originals as lavished as he wanted to originally, but didn't have the technology for 30 years ago. I mean adding a couple extra jawas to Tatooine, making the space dog fights more intense by adding extra X-wings and TIE fighters, or creating exhilarating explosions really ruined 4, 5, and 6. Sure he did change it to make Greedo shoot first when we all know Han originally did. And he also put that fuck head Hayden Christensen in at the Ewok dance party. But can't we look past those though, and just love the trilogy for what it really is? A great sequence of films that made you play with lightsabers and wish you could pilot your own spaceship at the Battle of Yavin. What these remasters did for me and the next generation of Star Wars fans is what the ones that came out in your generation did for you and your friends. If he didn't come out with the 1997 remaster, I highly doubt I would have wielded my lightsaber as a child and pretended to be trained by Old Ben in my back yard. So if you wanna think the remasters sucked then that's your opinion, but for me, it changed my whole childhood. |

I think one of us is just a bit older and bitter about the whole thing If the remasters introduced some new fans to the franchise, that's fine, but he's just out to keep milking that cow. What does yet another remake in 3D add besides guaranteed $ for the Lucas estate? Nada IMO and it's kinda sad at this point. |

Oh I know he's doing it all for the money, but it's not all that bad of a thing because of what I said for the next gen. Hell, Lucas changed the whole story line of episode 6 so he could have more money. Just read this about how he sold out for toy sales. http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2010/08/ ... kurtz-wer/ |

Just read this about how he sold out for toy sales. http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2010/08/ ... kurtz-wer/ i knew about the possibility of Solo dieing from Harrison Ford during some VH1 thing. Ford actually wanted to kill off Solo after the carbon freezing (instead of having the temporary blindness in Return of the Jedi he would have had a permanent case of death). that, according to him, would have made the "I love you" "i know" scene more relevant. I agree with the Kurtz about most of what he said, including the "teddy bear luau" but i think his ending would have been to...harsh, for lack of a better word. all the old space adventure serials and stuff always had a happy ending. I think the original ending would have worked, it just would have been a major shift in the attitude of the story. plus it would have called for more movies to tie everything together (ie. where did luke go, how did leia do as queen (and queen of what?)). as for the 3d. yea, its a pure money grab. but i agree with BS, it will reintroduce the movie to a new generation of kids. i always new of the star wars movies as a kid, from my uncle, but it didnt really play a major role in my childhood until the re-releases in the late 90's. Its just a shame that I, II, and III didnt have the same feel or heart that IV, V, VI had. |

Man...my 5 year old daughter has see the original versions of 4-6. If you make it to your formative years and you still haven't seen Star Wars, someone failed you somewhere It's not George Lucas' job to keep re-releasing these things to get them in front of "new audiences" They used to be classics....everyone sees the classics. Now it's just a diluted mess. |
