Maybe this belongs in the politics thread, but I'll post it here because my comment isn't that political.

I was watching To Catch a Predator highlights on youtube and it struck me that Dateline (to my knowledge) has never gone after female predators, instead exclusively targeting males (both gay and straight).

Are there really that few female predators out there? What's the deal, it seems grossly unfair? You're telling me seeing some bitched knocked to the ground and cuffed in a Justin Bieber T-shirt clutching their Twilight collection wouldn't make for awesome television? Come on Chris Hanson.

On a side note, I really hate this kind of double standard. As I like to say, I'm a true feminist. I don't conveniently ignore the double standards that already favor women.

Also, I wonder how they get the rights to film someone. I thought you had to sign a release to be shown on TV. Does the fact that they're convicted of a felony negate that or?

They got a good deal of legal backlash over what they were doing. Some perps got off because of some of technicalities in how that group they were working with operated. Some evidence of entrapment, etc.

Sad really. They were doing a good thing, and I think if the TV show hadn't gotten so popular they might still be doing it. But, it's America. Even pedophiles have rights, even if we wish they didn't.

Hmm, I read that none of the entrapment cases had ever succeeded, but that was a while ago.

In college me and my friends used to watch the clips on youtube all the time. They're like crack. My favorite was the guy upon entering, stripped completely and started chasing the cat around. Then he had a nice little naked chat with Chris Hanson.

It amazes me that these people will sit there and talk with Hanson.

Victims of female predators are more commonly known as "luckiest kids in the world!" So South Park says.

ON a very serious note, I think your observation is a good one, and a healthy one. NOthing makes me angrier then pedophiles and the blind eye turned on them. I will vote for any politician that introduces chemical castration into our legal system. No sympathy, no second chances, eliminate their sex drive. Then put them in an institute for 3-5 years and reprogram them. If that doesn't work put them down. Females too.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little reform within the system. There's a big difference between the 40 year old going after 8 year olds, and the 18 year old that diddles his girlfriend only to have her parents find out and press charges.

The former needs more than "a little reform", it needs major reform. Child abuse, rape, molestation, all of it is about power. Who is protecting the rights of the powerless? Nobody. The law is insanely soft, probably written by pedophiles themselves. Burn it, draft a new one. Put the fear of God in these fuckers, make them realize that they are not entitled to abuse and torment the powerless. Take it all away, it wont take more than a few thousand examples before all of those sick maggots fall in line. It's so perversely intertwined within our culture, there are no rapist with scarlet letters on their foreheads, so for the ones that are caught hit them with the wrath of God. Give those in hiding something to think about. Hopefully some will decide to chew a bullet before their next victim.
