Post subject:  Does Hair Color Mean Anything?

For the record, let me just say to me it doesn't. I think I tend to gravitate towards darker haired girls, but I've dated 2 blonds, 3 brunettes, 1 black haired girl, and one of the blonds dyed her hair red at one point.

I was just thinking about Hottie Madness. And with the actresses, you have a fairly diverse representation or hair color. Obviously Brunettes and Blonds dominate because they're more common, but there are a few with red or black hair thrown in. It makes sense to me, because as an actress, you're constantly changing hair colors, be it through wigs, or through dye anyways, so your original color doesn't really matter. There are so many things that can change an actresses appearance, (and they're judged on talent too) that it doesn't matter too much what they look like. (Think of how many actresses look significantly different in candid pics than they do onscreen).

The musicians get a little less diverse, but there's still a good spread. Musicians also, are still largely judged on talent so looks aren't necessarily important anyways.

Then there's the athletes. The athletes are entirely dominated by Blonds (10) and Brunettes (6...yay math!). As much as I hate to say it, female athletes aren't very often thrust into the mainstream on talent alone. Unless they're a once in a lifetime type, or dominating force (i.e. The Williams Sisters) It's always the good looking girls that get coverage. And The Williams Sisters are still reasonably attractive anyways. Again, maybe it's just who I picked, but I tried to select athletes that were as close to household names as possible. It seems like all the media darling athletes are blonds or brunettes. There are hot red haired and dark haired athletes, right?

I just wonder if there isn't some sort of media or cultural bias?
Is there a perception within the media that a certain hair color is more appealing?
Is there a perception that blonds and brunettes are more appealing and marketable because they're more common?
Where are all the hot red haired and black haired athletes?

Does anyone here go for a specific hair color? (Or other physical quirk)

Doesn't matter to me at all. I like brunette girls as much as I like blonde girls and same with red head girls, and I guess black hair too.

I don't care really, but the majority of girls I've dated or been with have been dark haired

Don't you spell it "blonde"?

blonde set off the spellcheck, blond didn't haha. I think blonde looks better personally.

Evidently blonde is the feminine form and blond the masculine.

I honestly don't have a "type" that I go for...I've been attracted to men of all different varieties. I guess I can say I have been attracted to more dark haired guys than blondes...but I think there are just more dark haired guys than blonde haired guys, right? Blonde hair is a recessive gene, so there must be more dark haired guys out there. Most blondes dye their hair anyways. So maybe that has something to do with it. Then there is also the silver fox...I love me some silver foxes!

But I don't know if there is a bias...I have never thought about it. There is obviously a race bias in mainstream media, but I've never thought about hair color.

I remember my cousin was trying to hook me up with one of her friends (without my knowledge at the time, I definitely wasn't interested), and he just looks at me and goes, "I don't like blondes." I thought that was a rude thing to say.

There isn't a ladder with enough rungs on it to knock you down far enough.

Well, I'm saying gentlemen prefer blondes, not blonds.

As far as your actual question goes, I don't put much stock into hair color, either as a standard for attractiveness, or an indicator of personality. Redheads are the least common, so that could explain the lack of high-profile redheads. But I think our culture glorifies light complexions, and that has something to do with the pervasiveness of blondes in the media.

I've always said that based on what you see in models and magazines the hottest are the darkest white people, and the whitest dark people, haha.

Haha that is true, but I honestly don't care about if the girl is as white as snow either, mainly redheads though.

If she is cute, she is cute to me regardless of skin color and hair color. For the most part black women aren't very attractive to me, but there are some out there that are drop dead gorgeous.
