Post your successes, goals, achievements, what you like and what you do not like, etc.

We have kind of taken over the RTT with our workout discussion, so why not start a new thread?

:)

My goal: 110-112lb by Spring Break 2010. And keeping it off.

I am at 122lb as of last night. I feel like 10-12lb is definitely achievable by the date, but it is going to take some work fo sho. :)

My weight has fluctuated so much since starting college. I've been upwards of 135-140lb, down to 110lb and everywhere in between. Certainly can't be healthy in the grand scheme of things, but I'm trying to make myself healthier. It helps that I have supportive friends, for sure. Having people to go to the gym with me really makes a difference.

Cool idea Beth,

Right now as of this morning I was 222, my goal is 190 by April 27th, but my short term goal is 200 even by March 27th

As for those wondering what my starting weight was back in May of last year it was 295lbs. I've been as low as 212, but the holidays and drinking with buddies has shot that up about 10 pounds.

Anybody who wants some help with supplements or work out ideas feel free to ask me, I've spent nearly a year studying the shit out of that stuff.

Good luck everyone!

Wii Fit is pretty revolutionary, but from what I've heard, and strictly heard, is EA Active is a bit more challenging and a bit more refined that Wii Fit

I feel like WiiFit is really good for those who don't really enjoy exercise. I don't think it's the end all, be all of exercise, but any sort of workout is better than none.

EA Active I've heard is much better. It uses a resistance band and such, which makes for challenging workouts. EA Active can be used with the WiiFit balance board and now there is an expansion pack out for EA Active as well.

I actually have a question for you Beth,

Do you guys have a DVD burner in 420? I have those Tony Horton 10 min trainer videos I'm always talking about, and I wanna make copies for a friend, but I dont have a DVD burner here. If you guys would let me use a burner, I'd buy the DVDs, and a few extra so you guys could have a copy too. If you're interested, if not, I'll just go buy a burner.

Yeah Mike, if you wanna check out another cool sight, check out Livestrong.com

They have a good program on there called "My Daily Plate", it's totally free, and will track your calories, and help you set goals and follow them.

Lots of good info on there, and you can log in right through your facebook.

One of the best "free" programs out there.

Bingo.

I've worked out in one form or another (Biking, weights, tennis, racquetball, basketball, etc.) since I was in college, like, sigh, <cough>18 years.

Wii Fit is actually good because, well first like Beth says, any workout is better than nothing. But also, it gives a good sense of body-awareness, things like balance and form. I mainly use it for yoga, and it's tough for me to say how good it is for that is since I've never done yoga before. But I can tell you that Wii Fit can offer a challenge of some sort for even those who already workout. It has a good variety of exercises and gives you very direct instruction on doing them. That's something that can be hard to come by unless you have a knowledgeable gym-buddy, or the $ to pay a personal trainer. Plus it's fun, which is what exercise should be.

BUT, you gotta do more than Wii Fit. The key to working out is variation because your muscles, heart, and metabolism all adjust to things they're used to, and your body expends less energy doing something it's used to doing. So do Wii Fit, but make it one part of your plan.

I was just about to post a very similar reply. Very well said.

And for full disclosure's sake, I am a skinny man. As far as the vanity of working out goes, I actually work out to gain weight by putting on muscle. I am 6'2", and when I got my Bally's membership in 2002, I weighed like 150-155. Since then I've put on like 20 pounds and usually weigh in around 175 these days. I know many of you trying to lose weight probably don't have much sympathy for that, but we all have our own body issues.

Right now, I've been subject to the freshman 15 and am weighing in at 195. I'm used to playing sports year round for my highschool and being a semi-regular member at the gym.

At the end of may, I was 180. This was after a month long trip to the nepal (himalayas) on a hiking trip eating nothing but rice and lentils, then coming home (mid april) to 5 rugby practices a week or 4 practices and a game +regular trips to the gym. I was running a 6 minute mile and benching 240lbs.

Since then I've lost almost all my ab tone and haven't tested my strength in too long. I'm nervous to go back to the gym for fear of disappointment. I'll be playing rugby again this summer, not as seriously as before when I was playing on 2 teams but it'll be good to get back into it. I plan (read: hope) to get back into my form around 185 and make a sincere effort to play for my universities A-squad. I had an invitation to try out at the beginning of the year and chose not to. D'Oh!

I didn't think wii fit actually did anything / people thought that was an actual workout

I'm 6'1 if that matters to anyone

As Markus has disturbingly pointed out time and time again I am "smaller than most women."

I used to hold steady at 145 pounds, but I have in the past year bulked up a little to 150, which makes me happy. I tend to be very active whether I'm actually working out or not. I figured one day at work I walk anywhere from a quarter to a half mile every day.

Beyond that I am continually running around my house (around 100' just to get upstairs), or playing hockey in the driveway. I used to have a workout routine I did daily, and at one point looked absurdly muscular for my size, but that's kind of gone by the wayside.

I fill my hours with writing, and that suits me just fine.

After college and marriage I inflated to about 197 at my heaviest. Weight Watchers (by proxy) got me down to about 170, but after going off WW, I inched back up to high 170's. Since getting the Wii Fit I've dropped a couple pounds, but what I've noticed is that my balance and strength has improved. I expect when I add in some other exercise I can drop down to my goal of around 165. That's towards the high end of a healthy BMI for me, but I think that's probably what seems normal for my body type.

I walk 2-3 miles every evening in the winter (sometimes twice a day on weekends) and swim a couple of laps across the small lake we live on every day in the summer months (it's 12 acres, but I don't know the distance). I usually take the evening walks with my wife, which is also good for the relationship.

I started this about nine months ago and have lost 50 lbs. (I also eliminated most carbs from my diet - including alcohol).

I feel the best I have in 15 years.
