i just bought the new MyTouch 4G on saturday, and it's my first android phone. I'm in love with it already, but every time I go to the app store, I am a bit overwhelmed on what to get. Android has SO many apps, so I wanted to see if anyone on here had any suggestions for what to get ..

so far I've picked up : angry birds(ofcourse), adobe flash, wikimobile, google earth, my banks mobile app, nhl game center, pandora, laputa e-books, and the rotten tomatoes app.

Any other apps you guys definitely suggest?

phil and i were masturbating last night and talking about the new evo phone coming out for verizon. but my plan is almost up, and i found sprint has a pretty sweet deal thats cheap. i may just shift to sprint and sell out and get an evo.

His opinion on those phones too.

I didn't see much difference between the pictures he took.

And I don't want flash on mobile phones, it already works shitty enough on a computer, Apple is smart to not get some sort of flash and go with html5 instead.

But Angry Birds is awesome btw.

eh, just posted the link to show how the android phone was faster. i was actually really shocked by that.

also, i was amazed last night, i was watching hbo at a friends house, and wanted to see what was going on around the nhl, so i actually went on to atdhe.net and watched a minute of the canucks game. it was good quality and didn't freeze any more than my laptop would trying to stream it.

weve had some good apple/non apple debates. it all boils down to what side you are on. it certainly appears that android has caught up with apple, but not sure about surpassing it. i really was hell bent on getting the iphone for verizon if it comes to verizon, but now i wont even consider it. thats just me though.

im glad you like your mytouch. its a nice phone.

Hardware, operating systems and applications are all just tools.
I pity the lowly user that only knows of or accepts one tool for any one job.

I'm loving the android, it proves useful every single day.
I've got the EVO hardware V.3

Apps I like:

RingDroid: Lets you make a ringtone out of any song on your phone. Basically all my ringtones are little segments of songs I like.

SettingsProfiles: Fucking AWESOME (although, not as good as 'locale') This lets you set conditions on your phone which can be triggered by time, location, etc. So...when I drive to work, it uses the GPS to know i'm 'at work', and it turns my ringers/notifications to vibrate. This has proved REALLLLYYYYY handy at meetings when I feel it vibrating in my pocket, and know it would have interrupted the meeting with 'hey ladies' from the beasty boys if I didnt have this program (i'd never remember to turn off the ringer every day) It turns on bluetooth (for my lab headphones), and changes the 'scene' to my work settings. It is also set to turn off all notifications between 2-7am, i'm tryin to sleep n shit.

File managers (there are a ton), they prove pretty useful for random things.

Speedtest.net app: basically tells me in about 10 seconds what my download and upload speeds are at any given spot. I'm in raleigh, which supposedly has 4G (although it's spotty as hell), so I like to see the speeds in different spots. So far my best has been 4mb/download. Surfing on the 4.3" screen like that is...freaking crazy. much faster than my home internet, if I could get it in my apartment at this speed i'd cancel my internet and just tether to my phone.

and $1.99 on a market keyboard (forget the name right now) that lets me just swipe my finger from one letter to the next, spell out the word, and it sort of knows what i'm going for. It's cool, because you dont have to actually touch the letters in question, it interprets what word you're trying to make with rather alarming accuracy. I switch between this and the native keyboard, because the native keyboard in landscape mode is SOOO easy to type with.

Fring: Video calls, although i've only used it with one friend. Honestly, usually I dont want to see the person, and dont really want them to see me. This is something I dont think will really catch on or be important to that many people.

I've loved playing with friend's Droid's and stuff and I want an iPhone also.

But if I don't get an iPhone I'm going to get an Android phone.

Glad you like your mytouch also. It looks like a neat phone.

My favorite apps (all of which are free):
The Buffalo News - haven't bought a print edition since downloading it.

Dropbox - lets you move files back and forth from any DropBox-enabled device (laptop, desktop, mobile). Gotta install it on your computer, too, obv.

Last.FM - so I can scrobble from my Droid.

StumbleUpon - hell and yes.

Tweetdeck - IMO, the best Twitter app for either computer or mobile.

Winamp - my favorite media player OF ALL TIME is now my favorite mobile media player.

The Hockey News - just, duh.

I've got a lot of Android/Ubuntu-specific apps I absolutely love, but dunno if you use Ubuntu so I won't talk about those unless you're interested.

And the only reason I'd consider getting an iPhone is because you Apple geeks get the WGR app with streaming games :(
