Kilodavis has put together an entire picture book, "My Princess Boy," about how there's nothing wrong with that.

It might be a big deal to a bully looking for faces to rearrange. But Cheryl Kilodavis tells the network you can't stop bullies by sacrificing who you are.

"I understand that we all want life to be easy for our children," she tells the network. "I want that, too. But I don't think bullying will stop if my son wears traditional boy clothes. We need a wake-up call. America needs one. The world needs one. We need to start asking ourselves why we are condemning people and things just because they are different and make us feel uncomfortable."

It is the bullies that need to be stopped, she says, not their victims.

i just dont know...

Meh. Nothing wrong with that. My sixteen-year-old brother carried a purse when he was little, and my nine-year-old brother's favorite color has always been pink (though pink was always considered extremely masculine until after WWII, soooo). So the kid likes sparkles and wanted to be a princess for Halloween. When I was little, I liked sparkles and always had to be Luke Skywalker when we played Star Wars, never Leia. What's the difference?

There may be nothing wrong with that but encouraging your children to engage in behavior that'll get them bullied doesn't make you an anti-bullying crusader, it makes you an asshat using your kids for a social experiment.

Keep the princess shit at home little man.

Yeah, I'm with Jael on this one, especially as someone who doesn't mind when the lines between things stereotypical to each gender are blurred.

Depends on how the parents react if/when he is actually bullied. I would expect their parental instincts to kick in and give them the desire to protect their child. They are giving him a little bit of fame/recognition in granting interviews, though, and that isn't really something that children should have, as far as protecting them goes. The story behind the book was probably crucial in getting it published and all that jazz, but perhaps waiting until he's a little older would have been a wiser decision.

Edit:
jk It was self-published... Still needs promotion, though. :P

I dunno, maybe I'm being a dick here, but something tells me that this is only going to provoke bullying.

It's the same as the people who wear teeshirts with offensive sayings like "God Is Dead" and then cry free speech when someone kicks them in the teeth. Sure you do have the right to do it, but should you really do it, then bitch about the consequences?

Just saying, if you want to draw attention to yourself by doing something that is considered strange by most in society, you have to deal with the consequences. It's a fact of life, and that kid should learn that early on, instead of being subjected to endless harassment, because little kids are cruel. They aren't capable of fully understanding the amount of damage they do to a person by judging them.

Don't forget the 'tuck'. Haha

I'm with jv and cross on this one. This lady thinks we can throw 100k years of social skills building out overnight. I'd also be willing to bet she has never even taken a sociology course, so therefore she should stfu on the subject. Hell, there's a good chance she FORMED the child this way, in turn making it's life very hard.

Bullying has nothing to do with what people wear and everything to do with how people respond to it.

You want to end bullying? Ignore it. Pretty simple, really.

It amazes me how much we try to change the actions of others. Free will is a god given right, and you're never going to prevent anyone from doing something they have their hearts set on.

What you CAN do, is change the way you feel or react to it. That's the god given right of your own personal free will.

We should be teaching kids how to effectively respond to bullying, not teaching bullies that they shouldn't be doing what they're doing.

Interesting, but if you could actually ignore the feelings/beliefs of others, there would be NO social structure. We'd all basically be pet rocks with laws. People have been trying to ignore social mores as long as people have been trying to enforce them. I do know what you mean though, and it's probably how homosexuality has been able to come out of the closet.

What exactly happens to your existence when you're picked on? Does anything REALLY happen to you? Your skin doesn't fall off. You don't lose your hair.

It's pretty easy to ignore when you realize that all it is are a series of clicks and noises emitted from one person to another. It doesn't have to carry any weight at all if you don't want it to.

I really can't answer that, but it's like trying to explain why there's no atheists in a foxhole. A man fearing for his life needs God as much as someone being bullied needs acceptance. These kids are killing themselves left and right, so obviously it carries a ton of weight.
