ok, so weve had ALOT of good discussions about cell phones. why dont we just pile all future cell phone discussions in one thread? tell us what you got, what you want, what you had, news about new cell phones, ect. argue, discuss, compare, sell, trade, i dont care!

so, phil and i have been masturbating to the new HTC android phone coming out for verizon. think of an EVO in a nexus one case with dual core processors, and a whole shitload of other features.

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/12/31/ ... -and-more/

rumoured specs.

anyways, discuss away.

I still want an iPhone 4 but I've been contemplating Android phones, but ATT sucks for a good Androi market at least, reason why I'm still leaning towards iPhone.

If not I'll try and go with Verizon or something.

i fully recommend verizon. i love verizon. i like android phones. they are easy, and fast, and overall, a better OS to me. plus with all the new phones coming out, and 4g (LTE) out for verizon, and 4g for sprint and tmobile, i think, its just a better bet. as for 4g on ATT, i hear they arnt even close. 2012 at earliest. but i have heard ATT is going to be acquired by verizon soon. HUGE grain of salt.

Think of the things you use your phone for.

Go to each store and perform those functions on both phones. Then pick whichever one you decide you like more.

Got a Droid 2 on Verizon for Christmas. It's been great so far. Of course, this is coming from a flip phone with no keyboard or anything...but it's leaps and bounds better than the BB Storm that my dad has.

ive been very curious about getting a droid 2 to replace my storm until i get the thunderbolt, but whats the point?

also, the blackberry torch, previously exclusive to ATT, is coming to verizon. and a blackberry storm 3, AKA the monaco is coming to verizon shortly as well.

I'm still on my iPhone 3GS, didn't move to the 4 because I was in the middle of an upgrade cycle and didn't feel like paying the premium.

Waiting to see how things go in the next couple months. If the iPhone 5 is compelling enough, AND available on Verizon, I'd likely go that route. If it's not, I really like the Droid X, and would probably wait for the second generation of that phone.

Who currently has GPS/Navigation on their phone? I'm with sprint, on an EVO, and I have to say I think onboard navigation (through sprint or google) is the most used/useful thing on my phone. The thing always knows where I am, can recognize where I want to go via voice, and seamlessly navigates me there using car/bus/biking or walking directions, it's freaking sweet. I use it at least twice a week, and i've been in this town 5 freaking years now (so maybe I should know my way around better? Meh.)

Plus it's not an additional cost, it's part of the 'everything' package.

All together now - SOAFB

It was never 12 with my time on Verizon. It was 'New Every Two' , every 24 months. At 12 months you could buy a new phone at a middle price, less than retail / no contract, more than new customer.

Maybe that all changed after I went to the Death Star.

Post subject:  Re: cell phone thread

New Every Two was a bit wacky. I got my Curve for the two-year price after 12 months when my Storm broke three ways to Sunday. A lot of other people I knew were getting phones for a two-year price halfway through as well. Big Red doesn't often stick to what is says.

AT&T has a modified phone upgrade system. It's 18 months by default, unless you have an iPhone and stomp like a spoiled child because you can't get the new one ever 12. :p However, if you have a more expensive plan that isn't just the cheapest one, you can get a new phone faster, as quick as 6-12 months with the top end plans. Their reasoning is actually legit; if you spend more every month, they recoup their subsidy faster since they're making more money off you.

Even though they suck in general, this is a decent idea. You stay happy by having new phones, they stay happy by keeping you locked into contracts.
