Even though I was born in New Orleans, this is why I proudly call myself a yankee...

Man, after that first paragraph I checked to see if I was reading the onion.

Hell, I dont know the rules surrounding what a justice of the peace is and is not allowed to cherry pick from the law...but I gotta think he just handed these people a lawsuit on a silver platter. I'd have been pretty happy, that dumb fuck might end up paying for their wedding and honeymoon :)

Though, in his experience and many of my observations...he's right.

I don't really want to argue. What he did was illegal, yes. So I can't argue with anyone about that. I have an interracial nephew...so perhaps I have a biased opinion.

Um, that's a really racist thing to say.

What if the guy is Asian and the woman is white.
Or the woman is Indian and the guy is white?

Same thing right?

Is someone making an ASSumption here?

It's obviously a black/white thing. That's it. I'm not racist; I observe statistics and formulate an opinion from them.

Well the opinion you've formulated is racist.
Just so you know.

Is there any chance you're a sociologist who works in the field of interracial studies or something?
or have you just seen one or two bad situations and associated it with the parents being interracial?

Honestly curious, not being a dick.

No, it's not. It's actually a factual statement. And you can construe it to be a racist opinion all day if you'd like. When the facts change, so will my opinion.

I've done a lot of research into it, during a sociology class for my final assignment, because I KNEW it was a very controversial and touchy subject that people get very easily offended about. My desire to do research stemmed from my interracial nephew, but did not bias the point of my paper. My sister (a white woman) is happily married to a hispanic man. However; that is not always the case, and is a point of contention for many "racist" people.

On a side note; what games do you plan on going to this year? Raleigh (right now) is my closest arena...

I cant even believe that in this day and age, if two people have decided to make the commitment to get married they're denied. I mean, if a church declines, that's their prerogative, but when a government appointed official declines, it's flat out disturbing.

The church is a private organization, and can deny their services to anyone. The government is supposed to serve their citizens, and clearly in this case they are not. This official needs to be removed from their position immediately, no questions asked. This is all the information I need.

Honestly, he's worried about the failure of interracial marriage? How about just the general failure of all marriages in general. I wasn't aware that there was a compatibility test needed to get married by the court system.

Quick someone get Dr. Phil so he can give them his foolproof eharmony test!

I think it's something like 65% of marriages fail, regardless of race. I agree with your post 100% though

FWIW - A judge or minister can deny marrying you if they don't see fit. This JP just decided to say why; or the couple decided they wanted to make their grievance public.

Personally...I think this world needs all the mutt's it can make. From the biological standpoint these interracial kids have what's referred to as "hybrid vigor" (Technically 'heterosis', it's like the opposite of inbreeding), any population that remains genetically homogenous will suffer from more and more negative recessive traits. Variety, genetically, is fucking valuable.
Also, personally i'd guess they are valuable socially for lessening the cultural divides between races, if at some point we're all a mix of this and that it will be pretty hard to hate peeps cuz they look different than yourself.
