I graduated last year from Carolina Forest High School. My girlfriend of two years is a senior this year, and i wake up to the text "Andrew, we're on lock down. I heard gunshots in my building. Idk whats going on, i love you" So i wake up and i hear sirens going all over (Schools around the bend from me) and i flip on the news. Nobody knows exactly whats going on. Turns out an Autistic student wanted to speak with the schools resource officer (Who's a real Horry County Cop, not a security guard.) The Kid stabs the officer in the back, and reaches for his pistol while he's on the floor. Officer Rhodes fights his arm away and puts two bullets in the 16 year old. Kid dies in the hospital...You have no idea how scared i was for my girlfriend. I fully support Officer Rhodes decision to fire on the student when you're the only protection for an entire school from an armed autistic student.... http://www.wmbfnews.com/global/story.asp?s=11326047 |

Thats awful to hear man, I'm glad that your girlfriend is alright. My heart goes out to the officer, his family, and the family of the child. Seems like this is just a bad day in the lives of all of them. Unfortunately this is the world we live in, and thankfully the officer wasn't too incapacitated to do his job, which is to protect the school against a threat. Whether it be from inside or outside the school. Given what I've heard, he did what he had to, and I'm sure he feels terrible for having to, but it was his only out at that point. |

Yeah, I would not be able to function if that happened to someone close to me. I'm glad the officer was able to make a decision quickly to protect those in the school, even though it tragically resulted in loss of life. |

Not to jump on a bandwagon or nuthin', but I also support the police officer's decision. To quote the wise Mr. Spock, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". |

Oh my goodness, that is so scary. I'm glad your girlfriend is safe, and my heart goes out for that security officer. It was the right course of action given the situation, but he'll still have a hard road of recovery mentally after that. Super sad |

I think he said only with a deadly weapon, or he'd mase him. But good thing you girl is alright, and is the officer alright? |

that's crazy. it's sad that the student had to die in the process but I definitely support the officers decision to open fire. |

Depending on the autism he has it won't be blamed on videogames, it will be purely blamed on Autism. It sucks he had to die, but any officer would have done that, you have no idea what someone with a deadly weapon will do, especially after he got stabbed twice. |

I don't think I can say anything different than anyone else has already said here....just......wow. I can't even fathom having to be in the position the officer was in to have to make the decision he had to make. Nobody wins here. A kid is dead, and an officer had the unfortunate job of having to do his job..... |

I'd feel terrible that it was an autistic kid (I killed) if I was the officer, but at least he and the rest of the school is safe. |
