So I just picked up this E smoking device to help me quit and then come to find out that states are trying to ban it. Well, more specificly there are a couple do gooders trying to ban them basically because smoking is bad for you. I was looking forward to smoking in doors since it's only water vapor and has no second hand smoke and to feeling better in general since I won't be puffing on tar and shit. Have any of you used these things and what is your opinion on this proposed ban?

i think the ban is one more case of the man going too far.

The proposed NY E-smoking ban, but there are more states concidering it.

Hm, dont know a thing about the E-cigarette, but wanted to chime in (and pat myself on the back) because after a fucking YEAR of chewing nicorette, I've now been completely without nicotine for the past week. GO ME!

celebratory rant over.

Nice! Congrats. I have ran two marathons and since my lung collapsed (yeah genetics) and I blew my knee out snow boarding, smoking has ruined my ability to feel good while working out. I want to quit so I can have some damn lung power to climb some of these mountains out here without huge breaks every five minutes. 12,000 feet is no joke.

As for the indoor ban though, what the fuck is the basis? There isn't second hand smoke and it doesn't smell like anything so what the fuck? Just a bunch of shit heads injecting us with their morals and crusades...ugh.

Yeah...from what I understand it really is just water vapor, which is already IN air (and no one is complaining about it so far...) I guess it's just an overreaction from the militant non-smokers. I'm assuming if ANY science is brought into the argument that will pretty much end the debate.

Non-smokers should love this idea, honestly.

I was thinking about buying one to quit. I'm very disappointed to hear they might be outlawing them.

From what I gather it's just a ban on smoking in bars and wat not. Just stupid since there isn't a reason for it other than anti-smoking opinions.

As someone who smoked for 14 years let me suggest to anyone trying to quit...Chantix.

I tried gum, patches with Zyban etc. and the one that worked for me was Chantix...it doesn't replace your desire for nicotine, it removes it.

I used Chantix before and it worked really well. I quit for about 6 months but then between my wife and I we had four family members die within a week.....so I started again. For anyone really wanting to quit, Cross is right, Chantix work wonders.

Why are they banning it? Because smoking is bad for you? That's rich. Probably because it's a potential threat to cigarette companies.

another shout out for chantix...I started smoking when I was 12, quit when I was 42..it's been 4 smoke-free years for me and hubby! Seriously, NOTHING ELSE WORKED.

No, let me explain. This isn't a ban on the product but a ban on smoking it in bars and the like, just like the smoking ban. Just uppity anti smokers who don't want "smoking" of any kind.....even if it's just vapor.

Yikes, wasnt there a report out some time ago about an absurdly increased rate of suicides of people using chantix? Clearly I have no scientific paper to quote, (nor apparently the time/interest to google this) but just remember hearing something about this.

Cross, you ok? you didnt kill yourself did you? Are you a ghost keeping the servers running?

I haven't heard about suicides, the only side effect it had on me was it would make me acutely nauseous for the 10 minutes after taking one...that really did suck.

I suspect if the suicide thing were significant it would have been pulled from the market. And it's not like smoking is that great for you anyway ;)

With military docs they make you talk to one of the mental health docs before they will prescribe it. It's a big deal but is more likely if you have pre-existing depression.

Ahh...I suspect my doc is trying to off me anyway.
He keeps wanting to yell at me about my diet but my blood pressure and cholesterol are perfect so he has no excuse.

I know, I can't believe law makers are trying to ban this idea! It's nicotine and water vapor. That's it.

I for one would like to try one even though I am non-smoker going on countless years thanks to the patch and my herculean willpower.

I seen one plugged into a USB port (why I don't know) and it was a prominent prop in a recent movie with Depp and Jo-Lee.

you actually screw the thing into a usb deal and then into the usb port to charge it.

i don't know if it's the same everywhere but i think the government has control of the cigarette industry. if that's true then fly's argument is pretty strong.

They aren't trying to ban them, as in make them illegal. They are trying to lump them right along side with cigarettes and say that you can't smoke them in bars, restaraunts etc. This isn't about threatening cigarette companies from what I can tell because they aren't restricting them anymore than normal smokes are. There are just a few uppity people who hate smoking of any kind and despite having no reason other than E-smokers are icky, want them banned from public places.
