Everyone's seen it or heard about it by now. Does it really matter? Some people are laying into Aguilera over this, but I just don't think it's that big a deal.

It's the National Anthem. It should be a great honor to sing it in front of the entire country, and troops oversees.

Get the words right.

I didn't see it in realtime, didn't turn the game on until about five minutes in. Was amused at just how awful it sounded. Had to be shitting herself on the inside, haha.

The anthem(s) has been messed up in hockey games and other events in the past with no one calling for the singer's head. Now, although I'm no fan of football, this isn't just any other sporting event...

It's the Super Bowl. Thousands of people in attendance. She's used to singing in front of people on a similar stage. Plus, she is American. She claims to have been singing it since she was 7 years old or something. She should know the anthem by now.

Shit, I'm a Canuck and know the US National Anthem by heart.

There is some good that can come out of all of this.

She could end up in Tosh.0's video redemption gag.

Yeah, I agree with you Don, I think due to her status and the venue you can criticize her for losing focus or concentrating too much on how she was singing rather than the words themselves, (or whatever it is that happened in her head that caused the gaffe), but it was an afterthought to me. It only just now occurred to me to look it up and see what the hell everyone was talking about. It just didn't seem like news to me, not in the sense that it did to Sullivan.

I always enjoyed going to hockey games at Clarkson where no one sang, and the pep band just played both anthems. Sounded great.

I guess it could have been worse...

They could have had Roseanne.

When they first showed her on camera I thought she was Cindy Lauper.

She can't sing, she's aging like Keith Richards and besides generally acting like a whore I have no idea why she's famous.

All the "entertainment" this year was piss poor and I hope the NFL got the message.

Please, no more R&B "renditions" of any national anthems. Like the Canadian anthem at the Vancouver opening ceremonies last year. It's just awful.

It should be about the song, not the singer. Stick to the way it's written.

Made me lol, that's what everyone says about artists that appeal to the generation (or generations) after them.

Whore
Can't sing
Don't know why they're famous.

That's not always true. I know lots of older generations who appreciate younger music. They just don't appreciate mainstream younger music.

Watched the game with a group full of Russians and before the anthem they were like, "I love the anthem! It's so moving! Turn it up!" Then they were like, "....oh."

Either way, mistakes happen. Even though she's been performing in front of hundreds of thousands of people for years, nerves can creep up on you and you can freeze. I'm sure 99 out of 100 times she could get the words right, but unfortunately she made a mistake at the wrong time.

um no.
I like lots of good music, old and new.

Admittedly I can't stand R&B because taking a simple melody and turning every note into 3 notes doesn't give you soul, it makes you sound like an idiot who can't carry a tune.

And are you going to defend the performance of the Black Eyed Peas again.
Please tell me how I just didn't like it because I'm old.

I don't see it as being that big of a deal. She made a mistake. Even celebrities get nervous. Hell, a lot of celebrities admit that even though they've been on stage a ton, they still get nervous about it all the time. So, she made a mistake. Who cares? Clearly way too many people.

That being said, I don't particularly like the way she sang it, and it looked like she was in some serious pain every time she sang a note. However, the fact that she made a mistake is being way overblown.

it's the national anthem, not a cover of the eye of the tiger.

i suspect there are many countries that would kill someone who did this (no, i don't think she should die). the national anthem is a big deal. if you don't know them well enough to be sure you'll sing it correctly, write the lyrics on a piece of paper or your arm.

it's also the superbowl, the single most watched program in america in a sport that's endemic to america. do it right or don't do it at all. if cokehead whitney houston can do it (and probably the best version of all time) any pro should be able to.

don't think so.
in most other countries there is no singer who performs the national anthem . all people in the stadium sing it together.... (except for Spain , cause they have no lyrics)
