And I want to see proven documentation from CNN or another reputable source that says Buffalo is the most economically depressed city in the greatest country on the planet. I don’t think they are struggling that badly, and even if they are, a city a million + has more than 72,000 that are feeling totally fine and comfortable.

What are the sources and actual numbers detailing the hard times in Buffalo?

I had thought that Buffalo finished second worst to Detroit in terms of economic conditions, and population loss.

A single family home of 2000 sq. ft. in N. Tonawanda NY, (Niagara County) is taxed annually for an estimated 2117.00. The same home in Nashville, TN is taxed at 623.00 annually. And I can tell you the list goes on and on.

Impossible that we are worse off than Detroit. They've been losing 30,000-40,000 people a year for several years now, and I am not exaggerating. That's also just from the city itself, not including surrounding areas.

the thing is. Buffalo was never really booming in recent times to begin with so when the economy starting to fall, it kind of fell closer to Buffalos already depressed level.

Well, WNY isn't exactly Disneyland, but it's not the "worst" of anything. Actually, look up the census reports from 1970-72 up to 2000-02. It is by far the worst exodus in modern day America as far as population shift. Also, all of those posting sources on employment, housing....etc...etc.....be advised, your sources numbers are not a direct accurate association of population numbers in the region at large. Buffalo, NY is at the bottom of the pile when it comes to communities for a wide varity of reasons, first of which is TAXES!!!!! The 6 county area of WNY is among the top in the nation for taxes. Sales tax, property tax, school tax, etc...etc.....also, our income is among the lowest of the population centers, especially given the STATE INCOME TAX that is forced upon the area due to NYC and its needs. As the quintessential Buffalo fatalist, I am by definition completely resigned to the fact that, in the end, the Buffalo fan will only know terrible pain, heartache, misery and bitter defeat, but still... how can a place with the most bars, best pizza, best wings, "Mighty", Logenberry, the cheapest beer, Ted's, Anderson's, and the most rabid sports fans in the world ever be the worst place to live? We are joined together in our unalterable, immutable, eternal sports suffering...and, yet, though we understand the doomed endings that await us with every coming season, we still hold out this tiny spark of longing, the determined audacity to dream the impossible victory will somehow be delivered, that a miraculous savior will bring us the forbidden championship and free us from the dark cloud of despair and humiliation under which we endlessly toil. House are cheap in WNY, but having the tax you couldn't afford to spend 200,000 on a house there. The taxes would be unreasonable to spend. My house in Bradford would have Property tax way more than double what we are paying now. Our house was around 170K, and we are paying less property tax on this house than our house which cost 20K in Bradford and was almost half the size.

I got those numbers from Forbes, I believe. If it wasn't Forbes, it was something formatted like their stories... But I think it was Forbes. It was a while ago, but I didn't forget it because it was such a ridiculous number. Buffalo's suburbs are growing, too. It's not from people moving into the area, though; it's just from people moving from the city to the 'burbs.
