The most ecent Gallup Poll shows that, for the first time in our country's history, there are more Americans in favor of legalization than there are in favor of prohibition.

Going to be interesting to see what the impact will be on those running for congress in the next 10 years.

Here's the link, and a nice video report:

As long as alcohol is legal, it's completely hypocritical to have marijuana be illegal. And besides, alcohol is far more destructive so it's just plain ridiculous.

for what do we need another legal drug? once you allow cannabis you can't make it illegal again.

Well, by my twisted logic, since they didn't ask me, that now means 50.0000000034% of Americans favor it. We have a majority!

Because they're no good reasons to keep it illegal?

Because the government shouldn't interfere with our personal lives. They shouldn't be making choices for us. It's antithetical to liberty.

It's human nature to mess with our consciousness. Even little kids do it. When they spin around in circles to make themselves dizzy, what do you think they're doing?

Laws shouldn't interfere with human nature, unless they're written in the defense of life itself. Why do you think the founding fathers of the U.S. wrote the unalienable rights of man to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," in that order within the declaration of independence?

Live and let live. Embrace freedom and liberty.

Exactly. Despite the fact that I would never use hard drugs (I admit to trying cocaine once), I still think they should be legal.

I smoke weed nearly every day, and I think people hate it based on false propaganda. To those that think it's more hazardous than cigarettes - it's not. It makes no sense that an organically grown plant with no other additives would be more dangerous to you than a cigarette, which is laced with nicotine and dozens of chemicals which are known carcinogens.

And compared to alcohol, which can be deadly if taken in excess, its short term danger is non-existent. It's impossible to OD on marijuana. There is no known level of THC overdose. And I love how people claim "well, people can drive high." What, like people don't drive drunk? And it's not even remotely the same thing. It's annoying when people who probably have never tried marijuana compare it to being drunk. When I'm drunk, I'm sloppy, have very little outside perception, am extremely inhibited and have bad reflexes. When I'm high, it's just a nice, chill and relaxing feeling that just puts me in a great mood.

It should be legal.

Why? Would you go out and buy hypodermic needles and shoot up some heroin tomorrow if it were legal?

You know the sad part? Methamphetamine is actually prescribed to treat ADD/ADHC under the brand name Desoxyn.

Meanwhile, there is a war being waged on medical marijuana by the DEA. And weed is still classified as a Schedule 1 narcotic, implying it has no medical value (with other drugs such as heroine and LSD). That is an outright LIE. Meth isn't a Schedule 1 drug, but is probably the most dangerous one out there.

I wouldn't. But you'd see a lot more people start shooting up heroin and doing meth. If alcohol is constantly being warned as dangerous, why do so many people do it? Ff it's legal, people could just straight up do meth on the streets and be very dangerous.

Why is it the government's responsibility to decide what I, an adult in this country, can do with my body? It's unhealthy and potentially deadly, therefore it shouldn't be legal? With that logic, cigarettes, fast food, alcohol, etc. should all be illegal.

I agree cigarettes should be illegal. Fast food isn't AS DANGEROUS. Not close. Alcohol is also not as dangerous.

Crack, Meth, etc. All of those are incredibly dangerous. Not as bad as marijuana, alcohol, or fast food. Not every adult is as responsible as you or me. Meth use would inflate greatly.

I'll be honest, people who smoke marijuana in general are annoying as hell. It's all they talk about. I hope legalizing it makes it not seem so fantasticle to them.

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in this country. Eating unhealthy and not exercising claims more lives every year than cigarettes.

Also, alcohol is ABSOLUTELY as dangerous as hard drugs. Thousands of people die every year not only from drunk drivers, but from overdosing on it, or passing out and choking on their vomit since the alcohol disabled their gag reflexes.

And I didn't suggest cigarettes should be illegal. They shouldn't be. My point is that it's terrible logic to decide something should be illegal because it's unhealthy.

Yeah, eating unhealthy is bad. That's over the span of your life and not just fast food. Meth directly kills you within a few months.

Alcohol, again, doesn't directly kill you as much as meth. Marijuana indirectly kills as well. Lost a friend to marijuana. It happens.

I guess my line of thinking is since pot is being smoked anyway, why wouldn't we (our federal government, and/or maybe state governments) not want to legalize and regulate its sale? It seems just like drinking during Prohibition to me. Let's legalize it and regulate it (and tax it) just it like alcohol, thereby reducing $$ going to organized crime, and providing valuable revenue to fed/state governments.

My point was simply that things cannot be illegal based on the fact that it's unhealthy. Adults should make the decisions they want as to what goes into their own bodies - not the government. Again, why is it the government's responsibility to prevent people dying from ODing?

And yes, alcohol absolutely kills you directly. I know people who have died from drinking too much in a night. It absolutely happens. And long term alcoholism can actually kill you as well. I have an alcoholic uncle who died from liver cirrhosis.

So what if meth kills you faster? The point is that putting those things in your body should be your business, not the government's.
